On any breakdown cover that comes with Motor Insurance or Bank Account
go through the small print with a fine tooth combe - If the small print isn't included on the web-site or letters, ask for a copy

All too often these inclusive offers are for cover that is so pared down, the only thing left is the headline BREAK DOWN COVER
The one I've got through the Nationwide FlexPlus account is as good or better than any other breakdown cover I've had in the past.

Yes, just signed up for that myself.

The only concerning thing I noted was the clause about the vehicle being fully serviced and maintained. I've assumed this is a general item to cover themselves if someone has an absolute shed and makes multiple claims, but it did cross my mind it could be a useful get out clause as well.

Yes this was discussed on this forum some months ago (you could do a search for it) when someone was denied cover because their service record was not up to date.

Can't find it. But that seems a standard clause anyway, I'm sure other breakdown cover I've used had a similar clause. Anyway I have my car serviced at the recommended intervals and make sure I get the stamp/invoice to prove it so I should be OK. Suppose it might be a problem for those who self-service.

I pay £66 a year for Autonational and have always found them efficient and friendly with comprehensive cover. The AA & RAC are no longer the motoring clubs they once were - they are owned by venture capitalists out to make as much money as they can.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

My advice would be...if opting for Autoaid....to apply for one of the sub-prime credit cards, like Vanquis or somesuch.

One would need roughly £500 of credit limit......then use that as the 'breakdown' card?

I'm missing your point I think. Why not use your normal credit/debit card here?

Sounds like a faff to me, but each to there own :)

It partly depends how likely you think you are to need the service. For me, the possible minor faff if I make a call out is balanced by a guaranteed financial saving.

I used Autoaid's sister company Autonational rescue for many years, and on the occasions I did call them out was always happy with the service. Presumably the service with Autoaid will be identical.

Every recovery company I have used has taken credit cards so no extra faff. Filling in one form to reclaim the money is worth the £30-£50 a year that it saves me.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

I'm with Quoteline Direct. It's £59 per year and covers :-

    Roadside Repairs & Recovery
    Home Assistance
    European Cover
    Onward Transport
    Overnight Accommodation

The cover attaches to the car, not the person. You don't have to pay out and then claim back.

I've only ever had to call them out twice but they have been excellent both times.

Be aware, many of the flashier covers [AA, RAC, for example..or should I say, Centrica/ British GAs?]....have limitations regarding the age of the vehicle.

Strange, I've found it's the cheaper ones that restrict the age more. AA Personal cover doesn't have any age restrictions.
