So I opened a second one online, and it opened as a "Classic account" rather than "Classic Plus". Phoned them, and they tried to deny I was allowed 2. I pointed out that they wrote to me recently to say that the change would only apply from the end of January. I was transferred to the "upgrade team" who turned it into a Classic Plus. Got £2k in it now.
I noticed it defaults to paper statements & correspondence, which will mean no interest. Be sure to turn everything paperless for your 5%!0 -

I heard them say mid Dec when oh opened his second. I'm going to ring them to find out an exact date because I still have two joints to open.0 -

What are the benefits of not opening them now?0 -

Fair enough. I must say, though, I have applied for nigh on a dozen current accounts (no O/D on any) as well as a new credit card, and also a substantial limit increase on another card, all in the last 18 months, and all of these successfully. I also still get a steady stream of pre-approved CC offers in the post from the likes of Halifax.
It never occurred to me that you might get turned down for a current account because you have made too many applications - but who knows what they are checking.0 -

You should be able to upgrade it online0 -
OH was a credit virgin until this year so all his accounts are 5-12 months old max. He applied for a lot of accounts early this year but the last 5 searches were made 5 months ago.
I thought it best to wait for them to turn 6 months and the oldest ones to drop off but to be honest I'll probably be the reason if we're declined. I wasn't credit checked for the first two accounts but if they credit check this time they'll find a year old default satisfied only 2 months ago. So I'm probably concerned for the wrong reason!0 -
Someone previously commented that TSB don't credit search existing customers. I understand banks get a feed monthly from one or more CRAs and therefore may not carry out credit searches when customers apply for new products.
Does anyone know based on their own experience whether TSB credit searched them for a second Classic Plus account?
If it makes any difference I have a sole one now and I want to apply for a second sole account.0 -

There was no credit search (of the CRAs) when I opened my second TSB account recently ... and they gave me an overdraft facility on it too)
(I was credit searched when I applied for the first account, which also has an OD facilty.
If in doubt, why not pop into your local branch and ask? They should be able to tell you what you could apply for (and be given!) based on the information they already hold on you.
They update their credit records about once a month - they might even tell you the next day it will be updated if you ask them nicely - it's all available on screen to them.
I'm sure they will enjoy the invitation of a hard sell opportunity.0
