Which one to go for???

On first impression - the first one. Looks like it was built to be a nice house. The second one is very bland at the back and looks like it could have been an ex-estate house extended/smartened up. I know it hasn't, but there's just that something about it. One is more of an 'executive home' (God, I hate that expression). You know what I mean...

I would check both out, but the road more than the railway, because that looks electrified, it's down below the house and the sound generated would only be intermittent.
I used to live next to a similar line and found that even the 4 a.m. milk train and another clanky goods wagon thing that seemed 1/4 mile long didn't wake me once I'd adjusted. Those were noisy diesels too.
The road is actually at the same level as the house, and where it passes over the railway there isn't much to buffer sound it generates.
Only you will know whether you can live with it.0 -
What is the potential resale value of each house?

House 1 for me. Larger house, better finish, more curb appeal and more logical layout. Only thing that would make me think for around 10 seconds is the size of bedrooms 3 and 4, though at just under 6m2, I would just about accept them as singles.0

Well ladies and gentlemen we have had our offer accepted on house 1 after they initially declined it and we held fast, they waited 36 hours then came back and accepted our offer. House 1 was always my preference but house 2 was in the area my wife wanted deep down but she has realized house 1 is better so we are both happy now...0
