ill take bets on clothes, dvd's and books being the first to get hit with managed returns.
I wouldn't bet against you with that as a proposal. I think clothes will follow a close second.I used to get about 1 sale per month from there. over the last year I have had none lol
The used to have a tool for importing your full ebay inventory lol
I have had shops running for the best part of 10 years with no real sales at all, at the very end of last year I actually stopped listing as I was getting frustrated at wasting time- but I may consider a couple of test lists...possibly. Does this all only apply to paypal transactions? Cheque/PO payments not included?
How will it improve the buyer experience if buyers get blocked by disgruntled sellers?
Do sellers know that Collect+ cheapest tracked rate is £4.89?0 -
if Carl Icahn gets his way it may be good for sellers. This may open up ebay and stop them suffocating sellers.
With rising post prices I suspect a shift back to markets and the high streets will be on the cards for smaller businesses.
I've been seriously considering that over the last couple of weeks, the costs seem to have tipped back in the favour of bricks & mortar retail as rents and hopefully business rates start to fall..0 -
Out of interest I have just popped across to ebid to see if they are picking up any business on the back of this as they would be a natural selling site for me being international. I've looked at 3 of the categories I sell in, checked completed listings and there isn't a single sale showing. Interestingly though, and only working from memory one of the categories now only shows less than a dozen listings where before I am sure there were 100s, so I suppose if the competition is less I might pop something back on there and see if there are any buyers yet..0

Never even entertained that idea. It's either Ebay or Amazon, Play seem to be coming back but haven't got much of products I sell yet (their rep told me not to bother for a couple of years!).
I'd use Amazon again like a shot, but my stuff is just not their market. I do need a second site in case ebay goes badly for me, but my items are just so diverse I don't seem to fit anywhere else.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I can see this making most things on ebay more expensive.
I certainly won't be selling clothes
However, IF ebay do indeed make the returns process compulsory for everyone and IF this means they negotiate a red hot price with a carrier and IF (that's a lot of ifs) they pass this price onto all sellers then it could be OK...? I take with a huuuuuuge pinch of salt their claims that they will monitor buyer behaviour though. So it may all go very badly indeed and signal the end of ebay for me. Most folks want to buy local these days anyway. Back to the cold market stallsThey deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
I'd guess Amazon will pick up business out of it too of course. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

I suspect if he got his way it would go the other way. Hiving off Paypal will make Ebay need to increase profits quickly, small sellers are the least profitable to them, so would end up being pushed further.

Anything that limits the hold that ebay has over sellers is a good thing.
As for bricks and mortar, yes many people could now open a shop based on there ebay bill.0
