Paint or not paint

Hi
I am selling my house - for the past 8 months there have been tenants living in it and they have painted a large mural on the wall in the lounge - please see picture on link http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-43351618.html they are moving out shortly and the house will be empty, I will be painting the green room a more neutral colour but wanted thoughts as to whether or not I should paint over the mural - would it put you off? my husband hates it - I'm not fussed but I think the house will be quite bland unfurnished and all painted cream
Thanks
Nat

I think it's more a girly thing than a blokey thing. I'd leave it I think.

When you said Mural I was expecting something like Spiderman!

It's not overly offensive and in fact quite fits the feel of the room, but it definitely won't be to everyone's taste!!

I'd be tempted to leave it initially and get a bit of feedback from the Agent, following a couple of viewings...

Personally, I don't like it but it wouldn't stop me buying the house.

You could paint over it in roughly the same shade of brown that it is now. Alternatively, you could make the outgoing tenants re-paint it seeing as how they did it :D

I like it - it's unusual. Looks like the house is for a small family anyway so I would leave it. The new owners can paint over if they dont like it.

    On balance I'd leave it.

If you paint over it is likely that you'll still see it through the paint anyway. You'll either have to rub it down or apply multiple coats and it could be a real can of worms to conceal.

    I was expecting a hideous mountain/forest/lake vista !

These slogans/ quotes are incredibly fashionable. I'm seeing them all the time. Personally hate them, they give new meaning to word trite. But it would not affect my intention to buy.

I think it is absolutely hideous. I am a blokey kind of thing... I'd paint. It'd be cheaper than replacing the stained carpet from all us blokeys' involuntary reaction to first seeing it when viewing. I need a new keyboard too, whilst you're splashing out.... like I just did.

It is truly sickening.... that you allowed tenants in with such poor taste :D ... but now get them to reinstate a nice, bland wall coating.

(More seriously, although it is simply hideous, it won't really put any determined buyer off, so you could probably not bother.... I would, however, if only to cover the small proportion of potential purchasers who have sensibilities)

These are not usually painted - they are vinyl stickers. That would make it difficult to paint over, but they should peel of relatively easily....

It makes me vomit - like the wording inside a cheap greetings card. But it certainly wouldn't put me off the house. And the brown background does add a bit of colour into the room.

I also wouldn't bother painting out the green wall.

It's been done well. It doesn't affect value and the simple fact is that if you paint it brown, people who don't like brown would complain and if you painted it magnolia someone else would say it was bland and soul-less.

You can never appeal to everyone's taste, so as log as what is done has been carried out to a decent standard, be happy.

I dislike these threads now where people fuss over minor details of soft furnishing using words like 'nasty' or 'hate' when people are showing what is actually a lovely house that will meet with a buyers approval pretty quickly, providing the price is right.

A plus point of the mural is that is is actually a pretty economical way of creating a focal point where the fireplace is missing.
