I have also got it in my head that it did NOT stipulate on the email via the terms and conditions that I was UNABLE to use two 'offers' at the same time.

    They don't have to.
If this was not possible it SHOULD have informed such a thick person like myself.

It didn't need to tell you, it simply didn't show the offers you could not take advantage of.

There is no law that says a shop has to show, or otherwise inform customers of offers that are not available to the customer.
Like Ive stated ....you cant assume something which isnt written in black and white!!!! I.m not a bloody mind reader.

You don't have to be a mind reader, or assume anything. You were not entitled to the offers so you were not shown them. You only found out about them because you were logged on with two different account. If you only had one account you would probably have never noticed.

Ive got no idea how someone can justify what Asda have done.....unless they too work for Asda.

I don't work for asda, or any other supermarket, but I do work for a large retail chain.

It is easy to justify, you were not entitled to the offers so you were not shown them. The alternative would have been to show you the offers but tell you that you couldn't have them.

Would that have made you happy?

But surely, if that was the case, they'd have said it in their email reply?

When Tesco give me money off vouchers to use online, I do all the purchases, with all the offers, they total it and then you add your money off. The complete sum of the voucher comes off the total.

Yes, that works for asda too. It works because you put the voucher code in at the end, so the system has no way of knowing you are going to use a voucher code when you first log in to your account. So it has no reason not to show you the offers, and once you have taken advantage of the offers it is too late to take them away when you enter the voucher code.

But in this case chrisjoanne had a voucher that was put into his/her account already. So the system knew he/she would be using the voucher (if enough was spent), so it didn't show other offers which were not available in conjunction with the voucher.

As I said earlier, the person answering probably has no idea what happened or why, and probably didn't even care. They probably didn't even read the email properly, just scanned through it to get the gist (2 different offers) and picked a pre-written reply that explained 2 different offers.

One thing we haven't seen is chrisjoanne's email to them.

Yes, I would have been actually. I wouldn't have wasted 2 hours of my life doing my online shopping and "gone out and did something a little less boring instead" as some philosopher once quoted.

You obviously believe that from the very start (pre-order) I was never going to be entitled to any promotion because of this voucher - and I assume you stand by that. If that is correct, so be it - but as I have said many times something could/should be said within their terms regarding this. Asda have clearly (as you stated) emailed me a standard (couldn't care less) email trying to pass the buck onto me by stating its my fault because of my internet cache and cookies - don't make me laugh :D:D:D:D
Is your answer correct or the laughable one from Asda?
Again, if you are correct, paying customers should be entitled to know that promotions may or may not apply if these offers are taken.
My trust has disappeared with Asda and can't justify giving them around £450 per month - £5k a year....nah, I'll give another store a go thanks.

well they are very misleading. She was not given a £10 off her shop. And as I asked before- what if the offers available added up to more than the £10 she got?? did the £10 offer mean that actually it was a code to extract money rather than to give it. And if your explanation is correct something needs to be done about it.
OP-I would take the complaint further. If nothing else, then it needed to be very clear so that you could only do a shop of things you wanted that were not on offer.

So are you saying that had she done her shop before inputting the voucher then she'd have got all the offers PLUS the £10 off or would the total cost of basket change to reflect the fact she used a voucher at checkout, thus negating the previous offers?

Yes, I am saying that if she had been given a code that she had to enter herself then she would have got the offers and the money off.

The system would not have known she was going to enter the code, so would have shown her the offers. Once the offers were in the basket it would not have taken them away.

So, what happens in the case of those using a proxy such as My Supermarket? I've never before come across the situation you describe and I've been using online grocery shopping since it first ever began! I've used vouchers both prior to selecting my shopping and after completing it and the price has never changed.

The only time I ever had a problem was with Asda not honouring offers that were available at the time I placed an order to the time they were picked and paid for on day of delivery. I don't know whether they ever resolved this as I haven't shopped with them for several years. Most supermarkets will inform you at checkout of an offer you've selected is due to expire before your delivery date.

Yes she was, she said so in the very first sentence of her very first post.
And as I asked before- what if the offers available added up to more than the £10 she got??

That would make no difference, they could just as easily have added up to less.
did the £10 offer mean that actually it was a code to extract money rather than to give it.

No because it could have gone either way, the offers she missed out on could have added up to more than £10 and they could have added up to less.
And if your explanation is correct something needs to be done about it.

Yes, asda should stop giving money off voucher codes because people just want it all.
OP-I would take the complaint further. If nothing else, then it needed to be very clear so that you could only do a shop of things you wanted that were not on offer.

No, she could have bought anything she wanted and still got the money off.

I really have no idea why she is moaning so much, if you look at the picutres you will see that with the offers she saved £8.14, but buying exactly the same items on the other account she got £10 off.

If she wanted the offers that badly she should have just paid on the account that had the offers and abandoned the one with £10 off.
