How long does it take you to clean your house?

For me, it's like painting the Forth Bridge; it takes me the entire week to do the bungalow, taking one room per day with the tasks I cannot manage unaided being done at weekends, when my husband is available to assist. Then it's time to start all over again. Obviously I do a "swish'n'swipe" of the bathroom and kitchen every day; but otherwise a thorough clean is as follows:
Monday: Kitchen
Tuesday: Hall and lounge
Wednesday: Bathroom
Thursday: Bedroom
Friday: Spare room (which is actually used for storage, there's no bed in there)
Weekend: Hoovering if I haven't been able to do it in the week, change the bedlinen, ironing (I can't lift the ironing table myself), dusting the high areas I can't get to safely, give the bath lift a thorough clean (DH lifts it out so that we can scrub it properly), grocery shopping, and also give the car it's weekly once-over and hoover out.
Washing is done as-and-when; I set it up overnight to come on during cheaper leccy hours, and DH helps me unload it and hang it either outside or in the bathroom depending on the weather before he leaves for work.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
my house is never clean
there may be a small space (about 6" deep) behind me which is temporarily clean, but as soon as a cat - child - wandering adult - or bad house elf can put something there - they will..
so its not so much "finished" but "reached an acceptable level" so I can justify p****g off and doing something more interesting..which makes a mess...ah ! ok - it might be my fault too.Fight Back - Be Happy0 -
My house is really big and rambling, it's easily the size of two standard 3-bedroom semis and that's not including the attics or semi-basement utility room. If I put my mind to it I could possibly clean the main section totally in about 2x8 hr days but I'd have to spend at least another day tidying it up before I got to the cleaning bit. I've got eighteen full height double sash windows for a start, it takes me most of a morning to clean them.
Every morning I spend half an hour just doing a fast reshuffle...dirty clothes to main laundry sorting area, picking up odds and ends, air off the beds, air out the rooms, take clean laundry into relevant bedrooms. Last thing at night I stack the dishwasher and wipe down the kitchen surfaces. I spot clean the kitchen and bathrooms every day though and clean them properly including floors once a week. I hoover and dust the entire place over the course of a week. I wash the windows once a month. I change the beds (three) once a week. I wash down the main stairs once a week. I do at least one load of laundry a day. I do the extra "big" jobs like oven and fridge decontamination or web removal from the cornices on an as and when basis.
More than enough imho without stressing as to doing it all on the same day. Even if it were possible, which it isn't! I do allocate jobs to OH and the kids, they put in a fair amount of effort too. But it's a big house as I said, and there's four of us plus a random assortment of cats living here. I could choose to make myself a full time cleaner or I can chose to have a few grubby bits and some time to myself.
Next life round though I'm buying a dinky little easy-clean modern house!Val.0 -
I have a 4 bedroom house - I spend Monday morning doing the bulk of the housework - hovering, dusting and cleaning the kitchen.
However, when I stop work altogether, I'll be more inclined to spread it out over the week.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I like this thread!
I have no idea how long it takes to clean my house. Normally I start with the best intentions but always end up focusing on just 1 thing, spend an awful amount of time on that one and eventually feel too tired to carry on with what I actually had to do. You know those people that simply turn their house upside down with no final results?
"Yes, my home is a mess..But look how tidy the under-stair storage is now!!"
I only live in a flat (the stairs I mentioned before are for the flat above us) with bf and cat but I am training myself for when a baby arrives. We will start to TTC in summer but I have already started to declutter the second room for a baby that will come - if lucky - in minimum 1 year time!!! Crazyyyy!!
In general, I try to keep on top of things more than I used to. Not always successfully, though. So far I got better with washing up (we don't have a dishwasher) and put clean laundry away.
It is a very childish technique, but I force myself (and sometimes bf as well) to "put 10 things away before we go to bed". That's what my mum used to make me do when I was little! :rotfl: It kinda works!!0 -

I've gradually trained Mr LW to adopt Valli's ( from the Flylady thread) mantra: "Don't put it down, put it away".:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
If you not feeling as enthusiastic as maybe you should to start a task, what I do is, say to myself "I'll just make a start, if I get fed up I'll stop, but at least I will have done a little bit".
Also when doing this, you often find you don't stop, but carry on and maybe even finish the job in hand.0 -
