  • Well I checked out the breakdown cover & we're staying with the yellow one :D. It's a bit more than the budget ones but not that much more really given that the cover is much more comprehensive. The blue one came up with the exact same price though interestingly, think that's the first time they've ever done that without a price-match [STRIKE]unless they have some sort of cartel going?[/STRIKE]

I couldn't believe how many exclusions were on some of them - they won't come out for vandalism, or if the driver is ill, or if there's an R in the month etc ;). Horses for courses though, we're low risk people & always seem to have a baby with us when we break down so peace of mind is crucial for us :o

Spent £121 in Asda yesterday, I nearly passed out . Most of it on thermals though, we're quite a fussy family when it comes to thermals & Asda had what we wanted so we whipped in! And a gorgeous eighties retro rainmac for DD [STRIKE]with Peppa on[/STRIKE] :D

I'm calling this a 5 week month & stringing us out till next Mon despite OH being officially paid tomorrow, that should make for an easier Feb. I've built up a stock of contact lenses which *might* have been helped by the retailer mistakenly sending my three months worth through the post wot I have conveniently 'forgotten';) so have put mine on a payment holiday so that's £26 a month extra till May :money: The absent Council Tax is going in the holiday fund (& I'm already dreaming of Cornish pasties & cream teas!)

We have started a holiday fund too, no idea of destination but had extra in my wages the month and didn't want to fritter it! We went to Cornwall last Easter and have been to Devon. Just wish it wasn't suuuuch a long drive!

Not sure where you are Cath but it's quite a drive for us too, we tend to break the journey overnight in Gloucestershire. I sort of like the feeling of being a long way from home, I think it's quite healthy IYKWIM? I feel further away from home in Cornwall than I do in mainland Europe! Hope you have a fab time wherever you end up :)

  • Hello all,

Well the not so good news is that the extra money I had left on about 24th Jan disappeared by 31st . I can account for every penny, stuff like half price footwear for the kids that was needed, always an investment but goodness me how boring :(. Jan really did feel like a loooong month :(

Mortgage payment has gone out so we are down to just over £16,000 :T. Going to make an OP in a fortnight that will take us to around £15,700, it really feels like it's ticking down now :)

My iPhone contract was about to end in 12 days so I did a deal in the EE shop, I've been having trouble with iTunes since OHs employer 'helpfully' encrypted our laptop [STRIKE]in other words, broke it [/STRIKE]:mad: and doing the contract in the store meant they could transfer everything from my old iPhone to the new bypassing iTunes entirely. My aim is to save some money to buy a new private laptop & migrate iTunes onto it or Dropbox or something [STRIKE]I have no idea what I'm actually talking about now[/STRIKE]:D. Anyway, I checked out all available deals & I'm now paying around £10 per month less & have a shiny new phone :T

Hope the week is going well for everyone :)

Very envious of your mortgage figure, its looking very good! :D

Hi Beckyy, thanks for dropping in :) I think what often happens is that we sign up for the most competitive deal that's around at the time and then two years later it pales in comparison to what's around by then! I'm paying the same monthly but the insurance is included so it works out cheaper. I have to admit to being addicted to my iPhone, I couldn't cope if I was without it [STRIKE]can't believe I've actually just admitted that[/STRIKE] :o

I still feel slightly embarrassed about the size of the mortgage to be honest, let's face it, we did get one heck of a helping hand :o. If it helps I have a lovely big BTL to tackle once this is gone, & that's just a home for my DS not a pension pile sadly!

Hope all's well with you :)

DH phone contract is up soon too. He wants an I-phone but considering the amount of new screens his I-pod has had he has zero chance!!

Both my Dad & my best friend have glass screened iPads that they keep for use at home in their *carpeted* flats & Samsung phones for use out of doors, apparently they have screens made of a substance 30 times more durable than plastic. I think we know what we're saying here :rotfl:

  • Well the week started off well, I did the grocery shopping for £55 on Sat: £23 in Aldi & £32 in Asda, I didn't need meat but did buy a Hello Kitty winter hat for £3 in the sale :D

But since then it's been all downhill, money just seems to have slipped through my fingers, just one of those weeks I guess :(. OH needed some new swimming goggles & the only ones that were comfortable (after trying every pair in the world ) were naturally the most expensive . I don't mind if she's happy really [STRIKE]and not moaning every time she's in the pool[/STRIKE] :D I also budgeted for two tops I bought a month ago & have been dithering over, they'll be great for spring/summer so I'm glad I've got my act together & put them away! Other than it seems to have been little things that have just mounted up :(

The only big things I've had to fork out for were two new fence panels, they are in a real wind tunnel between us & next door, they have blown out regularly over the whole 10 years we've been here & our lovely neighbour always goes & puts them back (he's 6' 2' not titchy like us!) We've been saying for 10 years we need to replace them so I got my gardener to do it, he only lives down the road & knows the area & said he has the same thing in his garden so he knew exactly which ones to get, they weren't cheap but hopefully they'll stay put (& next door have insisted on going halves which is nice :)) The wind here sent our trampoline walkabout recently despite it being nailed down & that wasn't even a storm  I think it's cos we're so near the coast, it must be the Gulf Stream :D

Eating out tonight but that should be on my Dad (we take turns) & he's bringing my half-sister over for the day to see the kids. Am hoping to squeeze my way through till Mon with a no spend weekend :o
