That's great that your application for DLA was granted, and that you've got a plan for securing your children's future.
It must be very reassuring to feel you can help DS though to adulthoodEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Realised last night we have one nappy left in the house . So will need to pop back to Sainsys after church today, might also dash up to Wilko & get DS yet another pack of their 2 for £1 gloves as he goes through a pair a week minimum at school (where do they all end up? Is there some great glove vortex somewhere sucking the gloves of all primary school children into it?) It's predicted to be -3 here this week brrrr
I think your Ds and I have a similar problem with gloves (see my diary) 2 pairs for £1 is fantastic, Do they do adult sizes? On more than one occasion I have considerd putting my gloves on elastic through my sleeves (like Mr Poppy in Nativity
) :rotfl:
Good news on the nursing bras :T you must have looked after yours really well, mine were only fit for the bin when I'd finished nursing :rotfl:
I hope you enjoyed your fry up todayMortgage March 2011 £143,927.6

Thanks Goldie, it is reassuring, I still have those sort of late at night drifting off to sleep nightmares about what his future entails but this will help. It's all part of me accepting his future & what it means for me too, if that makes sense? Thank you for your kind wordsLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -

Ha ha Crumpets, do you think your glove issue reveals your inner primary school child?I love the thought of the elastic through your sleeves :rotfl: I think Wilko might do adult sizes, pretty sure Poundland do but they only have one pair for £1 and I think you might need more than that

Well yesterday turned out to be a spendy day . I did the Aldi & Asda thing & found too many bargains to resist! Nothing exciting - dishwasher tablets, laundry liquid, drain unblocker (ok that one is quite exciting
) on the Aldi Special Buys. Asda had their baby event on so we are re-stocked with Calpol (which we need as everyone is ill) & they also had Charlie & Lola biscuits (better known as Fox' Party Rings
) better than half price & they are a necessity in this house :rotfl:
Also picked up some gloves for the kids as its freeeeeezing here, & another fleece onesie for DD to accommodate aforementioned plunging temperature. So all stuff we need & will use but not the cheap week I was hoping for. The fry-up was fabulous [STRIKE]in a dreadful sort of way[/STRIKE]
& I took Xmas choc for us to munch on whilst going round the store so we weren't tempted to buy Asda cafe choc muffins (which aren't great to be honest )
And the nursing bras - which I assumed would go for the £1.50 I put as the start price & which I had a bid for - hit the dizzying heights of £6.80 :money: (Crumpets they were only in decent condition as truthfully I was a dismal failure at breastfeeding)
A day in the house today, I'm going to try to find time to contact the AA & RAC & see who'll give us the best deal in breakdown cover for the next year :cool:Life is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -

Day in the house sounds good :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Do a price comparison on moneysupermarket and look at the cheaper ones where you have to pay and then reclaim - a heck of a lot cheaper and some have very good reviews. Didn't someone on here's hubby have to wait 4 hours recently with the RAC?
Day in the house sounds good :T.
Do you mean like the green one gg? I've always stayed with either the yellow one or the blue oneTo be fair we've called them out 3 times in 7 years & they've been there instantly (perhaps cos we always seem to be two women alone with a baby
) I usually price compare online then ring them up & play them off against each other :rotfl:

Hi Roaring Twenties - if I may just stick my beak in here, your post regarding car breakdown cover struck a chord as we've just renewed ours. You may have sorted yours out already but if not....
We have been with R@C (turns out for 15 yrs!) called them out 3 times in that period with last one 5 yrs ago. Was somewhat shocked to find renewal letter from them was increasing the cost by £22.50.
So DH found best deal (for us) which was Gr££n Fl@g at over £100 cheaper. He rang R@C to see if they would match and although they reduced their quote it was still £30 more. We cancelled R@C and I booked GF through a cash back site so will (at some point in the distant future based on previous experience) get £15.75 cash back. :j
No idea what their service is like- DH said on line reviews seemed ok. I was just really outraged that R@C increased the cost when we are such good customers (i.e. have paid around £500 per call out if you work it out in terms of spend versus usage).
Sorry to hijack your thread - this complete disregard for client retention and customer loyalty is a real bug bear of mine....0 -
Hi Pushkin, please hijack away! I'm of the exact same opinion, the notion that you get penalised for remaining loyal is rotten, it's also quite short-term business thinking IMHO to be forever chasing new customers whilst ignoring the loss of the old. I know people shop round more than ever these days & there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, that's what MSE is all about :money:! But I think people are so busy too that getting a good deal to stay with an existing provider can be useful as well as fair for both client & company.
Anyway, rant over :rotfl:. I'd be interested to hear what you think of the green one's service [STRIKE]as I didn't manage to make the call so still haven't got it sorted[/STRIKE] As I said we've always been with the big two but discussing it with OH the other day I think we've only ever called the yellow one out! And they have always been utterly fantastic
Welcome to my thread btw, thanks for taking the time to read & post :TLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
It's been a strange week, I thought it had been quite LS but the balance of our brass seems to have gone down a bit more than I thought! I did get some bargainous DVDs in Barnardo's they were on a BOGOF! I wasn't quite sure how to feel about getting a reduction in a charity shop but the lady serving was basically asking me to help her out by getting shut off a load of unwanted Christmas stuff that had been donated :rotfl:. So we got some more Peppa (  [STRIKE]why did I do that?
[/STRIKE]) plus a sealed three pack of Little Red Tractor which DS used to watch years ago & is never on anymore, he loves watching things from when he was little, I think it takes him out of the big boy world that he struggles with & back to being a pre-schooler where he sort of belongs
[STRIKE]NB my children do not watch TV all the time[/STRIKE]
We were so excited to receive our annual mortgage statement, it hadn't arrived by Thurs first thing so I popped into the branch to nag them to look on the system to see when it had been sentIt had been posted the day before & was duly there when we got home Thurs eve...but they'd only sent the statement for our remaining account, not any of the three other accounts that we had redeemed in full ! I was so disappointed as was so looking forward to it showing a big fat zero
I rang up the BS & explained, at first they said that there wasn't a need to send a statement as the accounts had been redeemed so early in the year but I politely but firmly pointed out that there had been transactions in 2014 & I'd like a record of them please. The girl went off the phone, came back & said her manager had looked into it & could see there were quite a few transactions, & importantly that they led to the accounts being redeemed, & that even if they were all in the first few weeks of last year we still needed a statement. I resisted the urge to say in an exceedingly patronising voice "yes, that's what I just said" :rotfl:Anyway, statements should be en route now :T
It was thrilling to see just £16,456 showing up though. It's triggered OH & I to sit at the dining table the last couple of nights after the kids are down reminiscing about how we would never have believed it when we had a new baby, £10 in the bank after the fertility treatment & a mortgage of three quarters of our income we didn't think the BS needed to know our new financial position. And to reflect on just how wonderful Granny & Grandad were & how the family legacy lives on
Got my Dad here today to play with the kids, going to feed us all a homemade broc & cauli cheese from the freezer, then tomorrow it's church then we're having lunch at the powshe garden centre again. Hope everyone has a brill weekend
