  • Hello Ed, thanks for stopping by. On the reading every post, I believe you, thousands wouldn't :D

Re: what will we do when we're MF? Weeelll ;) I wasn't going to mention this till we'd paid our mortgage off, but we might have just one teeny weeny little BTL to sort out :p. My intention was to whip everyone up into a frenzy of excitement on our last mortgage payment date, then rock up here that evening and say "you don't get rid of us that easily" :rotfl:

Seriously, the plan is to pay off the BTL which will eventually be a pension, but not before it's acted as a holding station for my children. No way are they living at home with us until our dotage so that plan is to tip them down the road (it's only a 15 min walk away) and they can pay us a rent that will eventually become their first house deposit. Unless one of them becomes a vicar and the other one an international model/superstar of course, then we'll just get some common or garden tenants in :D

Eventually I'd like for Mrs RT to retire early. The money really frees us up to care for our DS in particular, he has special needs and his transition into independent living maybe slower than usual.

As to your other points, yes I need to get onto one of those 123 accounts or similar, I looked into it and realised I don't need a salary, yay! I need to get the R85 sorted, haven't done one since I was a teenager! But since I've been a SAHM the money has all been in ISAs any way. And as to 'profligacy', that is one of Mrs RT's families' faves. It was always a joke to say "the profligacy continues" when one of them spent 20p on something. Since the inheritance the family have taken it to new levels in honour of those who left us the money :rotfl:

Thanks again for dropping by, don't be a stranger ;):T

    'Profligacy' is a good word.

Since adopting a life on MFW lines, I've typed in several posts 'I was never profligate before, but.......'

And then go on to describe some sort of profligate previous behaviour! :rotfl:

I don't think I was really profligate, maybe just not as frugal as I could have been

  • That's settled then, we all love 'profligacy' :D

Not much to report from here but my diary was in danger of being on page 5 so though I'd bump myself :p. Been ill (again) so stuck in the house, some NSDs to show for it though. Need to do quite a big shop in Aldi/Asda tomorrow, so that'll be quite costly I expect.

Had some good eBay sales! Quite a funny one where someone cheekily offered me half the price I wanted, then added about 10p on to a second offer after I declined the cheeky one, then when I counter-offered at 90% of the BIN she agreed! Two seconds later she made a very near offer on a second item and asked me to combine postage . So that was £15 made in under a minute :D. *Finally* got the playpen listed and had two offers but declined as it's nearly £100 brand new so I'm not giving it away. I did give my old washer away for 99p though, it was taking up space in the shed so it was good to get shot of it. I'm really enjoying all this offering/counter-offering lark, I feel like Deborah Meaden :rotfl:

Evening RT - liking the sound of this BIN/BO business, I have a "room of doom" full of stuff to ebay, along with a attic full baby stuff that I'm (unfortunately) not going to need again so need to get it listed, I always get excited about bids so can't imagine what I'll be like with offers :)
  • Helllloooo all! Wow I was down at the bottom of page 5, can't be having that :rotfl:

I've been away as we've all been ill - colds, conjunctivitis, chest infections the lot. DS finished his antibiotics the same day DD started hers, that kind of scenario. Then OH did her back in clearing out the shed. The moral of the story being that attempting to be organised doesn't pay ;) She was flat out for two days - literally couldn't move - then she got a fever. So it's all been a bit

Also I have to admit to being seriously profligate and not wanting to show my face round here :D. Actually properly prof. We've bought quite a few treats recently. We hadn't really enjoyed the money since we got it - we'd enjoyed knowing we had such a small mortgage but not actually enjoyed any of the freedoms it brought us, other than the odd extra meal out. So we've had a bit of a spend, and feel very happy about it! Nothing has changed re: paying off the mortgage, that should still be gone by the same date on my sig, OPs remain the same. We just haven't put every extra penny aside to do things to the house in the fullness of time and so on. We've lived a bit (aside from the illnesses ) and it's been great :D. The house will get sorted at some point and even if it doesn't that might mean our backs are intact :o.

I've also subsidised this profligacy with good sales on eBay. I *love* the new system! Got lots of stuff on BIN/BO, had some good offers and accepted a few. Made £200 in the last month wahey! Long may it continue. I don't miss the 99p starts at all. It was easy to get hung up on them I think.

That's it for now, hope everybody's had a bit of decent weather at least :)

Sorry to hear you've all been ill, certainly sounds as if you've been through the mill recently.

    Hopefully everyone is better now

You know, a bit of profligacy from time to time is a boost to moral. If the money is there, and your can pay all the other bills, an occasional splurge is good for the soul!:rotfl:

I'm getting used to the new eBay system. I like being able to list something for a good start price any time I feel like it, and not have to wait to the free listing weekends, and to be able to schedule it for a good start / finish time. Now the 99p free listings have gone, I've given things to the charity shop that I'd been relisting for a long time. It's quite liberating really.

  • Thanks Goldiegirl - we are all well for now

I agree re: the profligacy :p. We need to calm down now though before it becomes a habit. I think it's like murder, it gets easier after the first time :rotfl:

I know exactly what you mean re: the changes to eBay being liberating, it's a good way to express it. I've given up with the 99p listings - very rarely did they hit dizzying heights, and often took a lot of re-listing before they went. I've got on with some higher price BIN/BO listings that I'd been putting off as could only do them without charge on a weekend when I'm usually busy with my kids - just had an offer of £45 on a pair of gold earrings :T. So it's deffo working. And I get to feel like I'm on Dragon's Den

:rotfl: that nearly made me spit my apple across the room! :rotfl:

It's good to see you back, it sounds like you have been having some much needed and well deserved treats :T after everyone being poorly, I hope it has given you a boost. You should still post here and tell us what you've been up to if only so we can live vicariously through you:p

Well done on fleabay, £200 in a month is fantastic! Sadly I'll be happy if I make double figures the way it's going for me. I'm scraping the barrell with things to list these days:cool:

Hi all, sorry for the radio silence again she says, kind of hoping she might have been missed a teeny bit ;). Lots going on with sniffly kids (aggaaaiiiin argh ) and teacher training/half term madness

OH got paid today so I made our usual OP of £209 :T. I've updated the sig, it now shows the original mortgage amount after the inheritance and the way it has naturally come down with monthly payments plus planned £209 OP PCM. I was hoping to save an extra £200 this month to re-start our MOS until NPower landed me with a closing bill to the same amount, they've finally calculated it after about two years of trying. I need to get across this site and found responses to the whole NPower debacle as I gather it's been quite high profile and am wondering if anything can be done about it...

Bought a few bits of summery clothing for the kids which has not been cheap, although I got some in Sainsys TU with the 25% off over the bank hol weekend and some more from M&S with their bank hol Friends and Family 20% off code (given to me by another nice lady in the queue :o.) I haven't snipped the tags on much of it as the weather is so changeable I just don't know what we'll get out of it. (Crumpets we haven't bought garden furniture yet for the very same reason!) Picked up 40p that had been dropped in M&S yesterday, every little helps :D. Had a couple of nice days out including a days girly shopping when DS was with my Mum and a trip to see the Postman Pat movie and a pizza just DS and me today which was lovely :p

I desperately need a new iron and board and my vacuum cleaner is on its last hose :rotfl: so for the forseeable I think it's going to be boring domestic spending :( but that's the way it goes I guess

Will try to update more regularly going forward, hope everyone out there in MSE-land is well :)

PS: Crumpets, just by way of clarification, I'm led to believe that criminal psychologists say that murder gets easier after the first time, I haven't actually murdered anyone [STRIKE]yet[/STRIKE] ;)
