Where does law stand on use of 10l+ jerry cans?

Law says max 20l stored at home, 10l metal and 2x5l plastic, but what about if you dont intend on storing? Background is i have 2 cars and at morrisons i often have 50p-£1 off a litre up to 100l. My car only 32l tank and wifes 50l, so to make the most i was thinking of filling wifes and then getting 20l jerry can for mine…

I had one it had a switch under the passenger seat to change tanks as well (it still had the rifle clips behind and above the front seats too.)
