Surely there's something i can do £ 1280 that's so much money and the situation that I am in was not my fault ?

I am sorry for you situation.

I would ask you to consider if your situation is the venues fault? They have accepted your booking and might perhaps turned down other events on that day having received your partial payment.

If their terms of business seem to have been clear I'm not sure they should be expected to 'suffer' the loss either.

I hope your problems can be resolves swiftly.

If its going to be pay another £280 and use the venue to get married, or loose £1k, is there no way you can still get married? As surely by now you would have bought or paid for most stuff?

We haven't got the other £2000 that's just for the day time. That does not include church and evening

Maybe if the venue can get another booking for that day they might refund you some of it . You could ask about that possibility. From their point of view they are losing money if no one else books that day . I don't suppose they really care about why you have to cancel , as to them it's just business . Hope you can get some back , such a shame . It's such short notice and you signed a contract so don't get your hopes up .

The wedding was not until the 24th May, I think they would probably be able to get another booking.

If the company was to give everyone their deposits back for unforeseen circumstances, what would be the point in the deposit?

Can you not pay the other £280 and then just get married on the cheap? Can family help with the few hundred quid extra?

    Really?
How many people do you know who book a wedding at such short notice ?

If you've already paid for the venue for the evening ...why not stick with that and simplify the day part of the wedding. Maybe even see if you can get married later in the day ....generally rework your plans.
It's lousy luck so many things have happened but try and think outside the box a bit and maybe just maybe you won't need to cancel the wedding at all and it's the marrying each other that is the important bit after all.

The way I read it the other £280 is just the rest of the deposit - then they would actually owe the balance of the wedding, too.

OP, though I sympathise with your situation, I don't think there is any reason why they should give your deposit back. I also think it is very unlikely that they will get another booking at such short notice. So sorry for your situation and for not having any more positive suggestions, but the whole point of a deposit is that they get to keep it if you cancel, so they can at least recoup a bit of their loss.

Hi can anyone help me ? I paid £1000 deposit on my Visa card for my wedding venue. We was supposed to pay £1280 , we could no longer afford to get married due to boiler breaking, school club going bust & taking 300 of our childcare money, tv breaking , work dying down basically no money . I phoned up today to cancel and the wedding venue has said we will lose our £1000 deposit and we owe them another £280 . I feel sick to the stomach with worry . The wedding was supposed to be on the 24th may we signed a contract please anyone got any advice ????

A TV isn't essential - if you still owe £280, why not use TV money to save paying out anything else, down-size your plans, make the evening do a pay-bar/ask friends to bring a plate of food - and down-size the church ceremony - I'm sure that the church will be able to trim it down and would help. There's no point in getting into further debt.
