Hope it works out for you ...... People can be amazingly helpful if they know a bride is in trouble......... Maybe your local paper would do a story on the Bride who had to cancel her big day after the childcare went bust.......It might attract the attention of people local who CAN help ? Can't hurt to ring the newsdesk-they always like a new angle.

Can you not scale back the plans and still go ahead? E.g. cold buffet instead of sit-down meal, civil wedding at the registry office instead of fancy church ceremony, no flowers or bridesmaids, simple wedding dress instead of the full meringue etc etc.

If you've already spent that 1K, I would definitely look for ways to still go ahead! It would be such a shame to lose all that money for nothing. I'm sure there are plenty of ways you could still have your wedding! Maybe post on the wedding board? You could scale down the cost in ways I'm sure you would never have thought about.

Have your friends and family do the food and help decorate...things like that?

Personally, I would hate to have a wedding on the basis of a sob-story hand-out!

Just trim down the ideas - get friends and family involved - you don't need a "sponsor" wedding!

Why not explain the situation to family and friends and ask that instead of wedding gifts, they give money towards the wedding instead?
Some people may see it as tacky, but I know personally I wouldn't if it's what the couple wanted.

    Is this for real??
  • How awful OP. Its bad enough trying to plan everything with savings and financial help, nevermind unforeseen disasters.
Some things I might do are-

Look into completely changing the order of the day, venues, receptions, speak to the venue about it

Ask family and friends for advice or bright/unusual ideas

Come up with a completely different cost-free plan for everything but the ceremony

Ask venue for more time to pay

Change the date [you'd have to tell guests quickly]

Scour the internet for similar stories and maybe they will give you an idea

If it was me, I would find the £280 somehow, and then go ahead with the wedding, cutting back to the bare bones on ALL other expenses.
What I cannot understand, is why the church costs anything at all, because when I got married (nearly 22 years ago) the church didn't charge us.
As others have said, do a buffet (or maybe a fish supper - we had one of those at a wedding last year, and it was one of the best wedding meals we have ever had - everyone loved it), get someone you know to do the photos, have a pay bar, and try to hire as cheap a hall as possible.

Bearing in mind what the OP has been through, I would EXPECT good relations and friends to be stepping in and helping at this stage as well.
