Just wanted to ask your opinions. I've been doing voluntary work at a charity shop. I've done three afternoons (I just do one afternoon a week) and I really don't enjoy it. I specifically told the lady who was arranging voluntary work for me that I didn't want to work in a shop, but it was all they had. How long should I give it, so that I'm sure its the work I dislike, and not anxiety/depression that is making me not want to go? I don't think its a case of me isolating, as I do get out and about now, and see friends, phone people etc.

    Hi FeelingGood

First off all well done on giving it a go.

What I would do is specifically make a list of what it is you like and don't like. Can you pinpoint things. Do you find the actual shop to small, is that making you anxious.

Is there one area you do like - for instance are you someone who likes things in order - could you offer to revamp the book section or find a part of the shop you could focus on and do a great job on it?

What would help you enjoy it? Can you implement anything - perhaps take in a packet of really yummy choccie biscuits to share.
  • hi,
rbk....thanks for remembering my birthday.been food shopping and had a bad headache but think its the remnants of the lurgy.
feelinggood.....could you go back and ask if theres some other volantary stuff to do, like samaritans if you feel up to it.i think you would be really good at stuff like that cos you are really good with the advice and compassion you give on here.and it would be in an office so not many around.anyway, if the charity shops getting you down, its not worth it, but you gave it a good try and its been a good experience.so glad to hear you are doing some well with the aa/drink and the diet.am so proud of you.xx
    take care all.
    love ilgd xx
