Hi everyone hope you all manage to have as good a weekend as poss. Thanks for your very detailed response Tiff, know what you are saying just a matter of putting it into practice. Son has agreed to see a doctor so hopefully he will be able to have a good chat with her about his worries and get some help. Looks like the omega 3 isnt working at all for me(been on it for about 4 weeks)so this weekend have to finally decide whether to go back on the anti-deps. Has anyone managed to cope/come through depression without meds? Just wondering if forcing myself to think positively etc would be best? RBK - sorry you had such a bad day yesterday, hope today is better for you.0

imported_goldie, I'm so glad to hear that you son has agreed to see a Doctor. That's the first step to him getting some kind of support. You must be pleased that he's going to seek help.
Why don't you make an appointment with your GP and have a chat about how you are feeling. The Doctor will be able to tell you if he/she thinks that going back on anti-depressants is the right thing to do.

Hi goldie!:hello:
How are you today hun?

You're more than welcome hun. And I know that knowing and doing are two different things.;) But you may be surprised at how quickly it becomes habit, so keep trying angel.
Son has agreed to see a doctor so hopefully he will be able to have a good chat with her about his worries and get some help.
That's great hun!:j The gp will be able to get him whatever help he needs. I'm so pleased he's going to see the dr. Let us know how he gets on and try not to fret too much goldie - I know - I'm a mom too - it's what we do isn't it?;)

Now you know what ol' Tiff's going to say here hun.:D
There are many kinds of depression and we're all individual so it's a case by case situation. Your dr would be the one to discuss this with goldie, as they could maybe refer you to a psychologist, who doesn't prescribe meds, if the dr thinks it's right for you.
It's always better to have your dr manage your health care plans hun. When we're ill, sometimes we can't see the woods for the trees so it's good to have a professional oversee everything as they'll know your state of physical and mental health and be the best informed about your situation.
There will be people who have gotten better without meds and people who didn't. But you'll have your own path to follow. A lot of us get put off when we've tried different ads and don't feel better or have been ill for many years but there are so many meds out there to try, and if it works for you, then it's worth it imho.
I will say that there can never be anything wrong in learning and then practising various relaxation techniques, or even doing yoga or having a massage (if your dr says it's ok). Sometimes we have to forget the magic wand picture in our heads and try and manage our ill health, rather than wait for that magical cure.
And of course, if we can make our lives as full as possible with activities -art, writing, bingo, evening classes, whatever - then our moods will lift because we'd be doing something we enjoy and that gets rid of stress. You can't be stessed and relaxed at the same time.
There's nothing wrong in having to take meds if you need them guys because after all, we just want to get as well as we can, as quickly as we can. And if meds are needed to do that, then so be it. Please don't stop and start meds without your dr knowing - it can be so dangerous.
In the end goldie, positive thinking won't hurt you.;) But you may or may not need other support options too. It's very hard to force your mind to do something if it's not up to it though so again, practice is crucial. Try and see your dr and see if you can both come up with a care package hun.
I hope you feel better soon sweetheart - I do understand how you're feeling hun and how much you want to be better, but sometimes we have to stop jumping around desperately and stand still, calmly and quietly, and look at where we are and accept any help there is.
Thinking of you hun.
Much Love,
