London set to ban older private petrol and diesel cars

I was looking earlier at info about zones in some German cities.
Diesels have to be Euro 4, and petrols Euro 1
This means that the allowed category limit for unburnt hydrocarbons plus oxides of nitrogen is 0.30 g/km for diesels and 0.97 g/km for petrols, more than 3 times higher for petrol.
If I visit family near a city centre there now, officially I will be committing two offences by not showing a sticker and turning up with a Euro 2 car
The actual amount of particulates my engine would produce in 3 km of that zone might be 7.5 milligrams, compared to an allowable 9 mg
Or maybe my car would be better than that, as fuel quality has improved since the original official tests were done before the car was new.0 -

have the Germans started enforcing it? Last I heard they were issuing stickers but not enforcing.0

I don't know. In theory there's a fine for being in a zone while not showing the sticker.
So I should already have had one for my last couple of visits for about a day each
Now I shouldn't be allowed as they've upgraded and I wouldn't have a green one, but I haven't been in any city centres for a couple of years.
It seems a pity for one-off visits, and I'd leave about one milligram of smoke more than I should, but there it is.
I wish I could get an actual test for it, rather than from just a look-up table, and with the fuel now I think it would pass.
As I said before the Citroen would qualify for Euro 3 (and it's close to 4) on the emission figures given, but only 2 going by the date.0 -

I wish more people wouldn't assume the majority of us give a damn about London.0 -

What happens in London could happen in your city in the future. Whilst there is a Tory led council in London, the Greens and Labour parties more prevalent in the North could jump on the bandwagon.
Look at Green led Brighton and there horrific manipulation of policies against the motorist - Brighton is essentially an outpost of London.
I expect as a motorist to be squeezed for parking and driving a little in cities, but Brighton is one place off my list. The man without a signature.0 -

You might have missed it but most cities outside of London are now so cash strapped that they are struggling to provide the most basic services for the young and the elderly. They don't have the millions needed for these grandiose schemes.
When I hear this week that Boris is going to spend £290m on making London's roundabouts safer and 'less threatening' for cyclists it seems like a different world.0 -

I, for one, also don't give a tinkers about whether my comments are considered relevant to the thread, or not.
Neither am I prepared to be dictated to with regards to my comments.....!
