Since you took the rads off the wall and lifted the carpet and had the walls skimmed etc, there has been some of the worst weather in years..... Water at a fireplace like this in weather like we've been having I'd strongly suggest is rainwater via the chimney...
Is there a cap on the chimney above?
Is all the lead flashing on the chimney looking ok?
Is it all dry in the loft where the chimney comes in?
Are any parts of the chimney breast looking wet?
Is there a fireplace directly above upstairs? Is that showing any signs of wet on the floor, or on the ceiling around the chimney breast?0 -
I think so? ....Rottensocks wrote: »Is there a cap on the chimney above?
I'd say so. We had roofers up there in January doing the flaunching that had all cracked & was coming away. They commented on a few things to keep an eye on - ridge etc, but flashing wasn't one of them.Is all the lead flashing on the chimney looking ok?
Funnily i had my head up there tonight - yes.Is it all dry in the loft where the chimney comes in?

No there isn't.Is there a fireplace directly above upstairs?0 -
Well, I've had a little water damage via the chimney over this horrible weather - the wind so strong I think it just blows water down there whether its capped or not!
I drew a pencil line around the water mark - that way I can definitely tell if it is shrinking/drying out.0
