One of our major builders offered us a new additional site in a prime location in return for us waiving the fees they used to pay, £250 per case.

In some cases, their inability to honour a build end-date is resulting in us losing money on the actual mortgage.

It was just weird being sent the same Halifax advert on the same day though. It's as if Halifax has set out to increase its costs by £500 a case.

This is one of my bug bears.

The solicitors charge what suits their business model
The lenders charge what suits their business model
The builders charge what suits their business model

Everyone has an issue about what brokers charge

Anyone noticing any kind of Christmas slowdown yet?

We had nine new enquiries between Sunday and Wednesday. The way it's going we'll be working until Christmas Eve.

We are 25% down month to date on this time last year, yet we had half a dozen in yesterday.

    Still feels quiet to me.

I get nervous in January as I remember the feeling in 2008 when business did not pick up after the holiday as usual.

On here, I find it puzzling when I'm the only broker in a thread, give what I think is the right response and get no acknowledgment.

The world and his brother get thanked but because I don't tell the OP what they want to hear, I get blanked.

On some parts of this forum, you save someone 5p and you get thousands of thanks. I give lifetime-earned experience and knowledge and am lucky if my thanked posts are half what I've posted.

I've long given up using the number of thanks people have with the value of their posts. Some posters openly use the thanks button as a place marker on fast moving threads, some people thank everything they need. If you want to boost your thanked numbers, just visit other parts of the forum.

If you think mortgage brokers are unthanked, follow some of the dentists on here!

  • Well, I've been hitting this forum and thread up a lot lately, as I'm househunting and I'd like to say a big thanks to all the brokers on here. I've learned a lot (used to work in insurance but my mortgage knowledge is woefully out of date) and know what questions to ask of my broker now.

So cheers, brokers, you clearly do a great job.

Such are the joys and perils of posting on MSE I think. I do often wonder how much time you and the other brokers who post on MSE spend answering questions here.

It's not only on the Mortgages Board. Elsewhere people get ignored if they don't give the advice the person asking the question wants.
You just have to think like I do - people are weird
I'll ask MSE Towers if they'll add to your thanks to make up for the people who don't bother :D

TBH I start about 6.30am most days and finish when I can't see straight, about 5pm. I often leaves this place open as it allows me to decompress a bit while remaining focused.

    Skipton's application system.

Must have done five cases recently. Every single time I've been unable to submit without having to call system support for help because there is something wrong with the solicitor, employer or property address, despite using their address search facility.
