This post is to 2nd Time lucky - I find your signature very very akin to myself -

"I know it seems like I’m this strong person who can get though anything, but inside I’m fragile. I’ve had so many things thrown at me, and each one has only made a crack. What I’m afraid of is shattering".

Your post struck such a strong chord with me. HR are nothing but a department that looks after the company NOT the employees. Five times I put in the official procedural requirements of dates, times etc. Five times I was ignored.

Although I still work at the same place - I am 61, no future, poor pay and no title to my job. I sharpen pencils and run around looking busy but doing absolutely nothing. I have no department and no line manager.

The union rep said that he agreed with everything that my boss had done and that - when asked 'how bloudy unfair this all was' he replied 'whats !!!!!!! fair in life - you are very naive'. He says 'you are going to retire anyway in a couple of years, keep your head down and dont rock the boat'.

You couldnt make it up even if you tried....

Wheezy - kindly clarify the following :

Above you say ......... " Although I still work at the same place - I am 61, no future, poor pay and no title to my job".

I am a tad confused. Have you allegedly had your dignity violated at your current workplace ? I thought the incidents were carried out over one year and I thought that was with a different , i.e. a former, employer ?

Yes, all this has happened within my current workplace. Im sorry if I have mislead you somehow into thinking that I had left that employer. I am still employed there. Given my age etc, getting another job - that even pays pennies more the NMW - where I live would be zilch. In other words I have no choice...

Aah ok. Yes, I thought you had left the firm. From a legal perspective that totally changes the landscape ; it enhances your rights. Again, give me time and I will offer a personal view re what you can do. The choice will of course then be yours.

Its sad really that this happens but I bet it happens in every firm up and down the company, I remember the time I got bullied, I went to the doctor with the health issues it was causing me, my doctor said prescribing pills would not be the answer, the only cure was to talk to HR. It took me a lot to go to HR but I grew the balls, I don't know what I was expecting but I guess I was expecting things to work out right, I was told basically this is what happens in factories, and that the bully was a respected team member with years of experience etc, I was told basically to get over it. I think this sums up life in general, we expect things to work out, bad people to get punished etc but 9 times out of 10 it never does.

Oh this is such an awful state of affairs. Every story I read just makes me so desperately sad. We are such damaged people at the hands of these unworthy and cruel 'people'. Sometimes I felt so powerless (still do) that I thought about suicide - very seriously. What kind of human being thinks it's acceptable to treat other people this way - and get away with it time after time...

I am at a complete loss for words with sadness and hopelessness sometimes in work. I am a nobody now.....and it would seem that's exactly where they (the bullies) want me.
  • I have previously asked for advice on a work place issue and got some great advice from people. I spoke with the person involved first to see if that resolved the issue but it just made it worse to her actually questioning my work in front of the MD and making it clear she feels I am not good enough although no one else has any issues with my work. As a result I have made the decision to get another job as I have no support from my colleagues or MD they prefer to ignore it. When I go for an interview I know I will be asked why I am looking for another job. Should I be honest and say why or keep quiet and give another reason.

When interviewing, it is best not to be critical of your existing/past employer.
Remember, at some point you may need a reference from them.

You want to leave because you want to take on greater challenges.
You want to leave to develop further in your career.
Focus on the positive things you can bring to the new employer, and focus on the skills you have to offer.
Have a checklist of productive things you have done for your company.

It may feel oppressive working for people who actively undermine you, but just be as non-confrontational as you can until you get your new job.
    good luck.

If you're thinking of suicide then you need to see a doctors.

And you need to let it go Wheezy, you have this vendetta against the employer (rightly or wrongly) and that in itself is likely to be further damaging your health.

Keep looking for another job, even if its less hours because your mental and physical health surely can only be better for it

Seen the docs. Just because I'm hurting doesn't mean to say I have a vendetta going on.

I need to understand what the fick is going on. Thats all.

My health is !!!! anyway, this is just the icing....

One last thing, health has nothing to do with the bullying. Unless you have been bullied yourself then I politely ask you to not comment.

Oh and one last thing. - I am not stupid, OF COURSE I'm looking for another job....a garage or tea room is all that's available.

Ah well as someone who in the past has been bullied that must make me qualified to comment under your strict rules...

Health does deteriorate under long term bullying, its a fact

Whats wrong with working in the garage or tea room then if it gets you away from what you deem is a negative atmosphere?
