Looking for a new job due to bullying

I have previously asked for advice on a work place issue and got some great advice from people. I spoke with the person involved first to see if that resolved the issue but it just made it worse to her actually questioning my work in front of the MD and making it clear she feels I am not good enough although no one else has any issues with my work. As a result I have made the decision to get another job as I have no support from my colleagues or MD they prefer to ignore it. When I go for an interview I know I will be asked why I am looking for another job. Should I be honest and say why or keep quiet and give another reason.

You can say why without making it sound too negative e.g. I'm not being given the support I feel I require for the role and I feel your company would be much better at thisExcuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0

I do not blame you for leaving.
I was in a job previously where a colleague thought he was in charge just because he looked the part (security). However, when a lad half his size threatened him the colleague hid in a locked room like a sh*tting dog! I tried handing in my notice several times but they would not accept it and said I should not leave because of him. No, I was not leaving because of him, I was leaving to had enough and didn't like the people I was working with, he was just the final straw. I worked for a supermarket and it seems like a cult and everyone was very robotic and two-faced. Having a personality and being different was a no-no I wanted better for myself and I wanted the company to see what sort of a person he was and what sort of person they would be losing.
I am alot happier now, as a cleaner ironically!!
Do what you need to do. Leave the other place to fester.0 -
Its very easy to say 'fight fire with fire'. Not so easy to do. Go with your gut instincts. Why would you want to remain with a company that values you so low.
At least you have done the right thing and fronted up to the silly cow who is bullying you. Cold comfort I know. You will go and she will find someone else to bully.
Talking from experience, once a bully always a bully (not me!!) and one day we can only pray that she will get whats due to her...sooner rather than later.
I wish you well and good luck for the future..0 -
I wouldn't mention the bullying, it would be better if you concentrated on the positives of working for the new company ie your skills are more suited etc.etc. Remember, the person who bullied you and showed you up in front of the MD obviously has issues, because that is not professional behaviour.

I agree wiht getting more4less, I'd stick with something generic such as, the role didn't turn out as I expected/was advertised.0

I would respectfully disagree here. I know what I am talking about from bitter bitter experience.
Standing up to this bully - well any bully tbh takes some courage. Some people just simply come to the end of their strengths and cannot take any more.
Your post is very very simplistic and not exactly in the OPs interest. Why on earth would you want to work with someone who is a complete !!!!!!. Coming in each day to work is a pretty awful situation to face that - just to build up ones character and 'be strong'.

Totally agree with wheezy57
It is easy to say stand up to the bully (which I'm sure you are capable of) but life is hard enough and you may end up making yourself look like a trouble maker or worse a victim of your own making.
Why not start a new job and get your confidence back and work for a new company who makes you feel valued.0 -
If it was me I'd have to leave.
Because in the end the fuse would would run out and I'd get physically engaged with the agitator. Happened!!0 -
I wouldn't mention it, it (wrongly) puts a label on you that you don't need. I think you're very brave to leave; my confidence is too shattered to consider going for another interview.
It's all very well for people to tell you to stick it out, but actually, the most important thing is being happy and healthy. If you can find something else then go for it - don't look back and get on with your life. This horrible episode will all just be a part of the past. Very good luck to you xxxI am Doll Parts
