I've been lucky in that all of our parents got on well with each other and we regularly used to have days out or meals all together.
If the OPs mother hasn't met them before I'm not surprised she wants to see them before the big day.
Neither am I but I don't think a meal at her home is the best place for a group of strangers to meet up, especially if someone who knows them all doesn't think they will have much in common.
Meeting people in a public place gives all sides a chance to leave early if things aren't going well.0 -
I do think everyone meeting up before hand is a good idea but it must be on neutral ground.
Maybe Sunday lunch out?Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
I had to go through it when my parents met fianc!es parents. We just did tea and cakes. they managed to find enough to chat about (my parents were on holiday in his parents home town) for an hour, as women generally are good at small talk. Not sure the 2 dads said much at all!
But all over and done and never has to have that "first" time again.
(and they are all in their 60s and me and OH in our late 30s then!!). So just do it in a pub or coffee shop so its a bit more neutral setting. Sunday lunch sounds a good plan.0 -
Definitely go for neutral ground either Sunday lunch or afternoon tea.
Stand up to your Mum and tell her it's that or no pre-wedding meal.
It's your wedding -if your Mum thinks you have turned into a Bridezilla control freak ....let her think so... if it'll get you out of the dinner party from hell !!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0
