Sounds like OWT_FOR_NOWT just wants a wireless range extender, to improve the WiFi, rather than any more ethernet ports...

Trying to make things even simpler. This "pair" of devices is ideal for conservatory deadspots... http://www.solwise.co.uk/net-powerline-plv-200av-pigpew-kit.html

These would also get round the problem with Virgin Media's so called Superhub having very poor wireless range, with or without the conservatory issue.
Does anyone know how much power a pair use? I'm sure it's very small, but given they will be running 24/7, it could be useful to know.

Your not wrong there. I just want to sit down in the conservatory & use a laptop or ipad & connect wirelessly to the wireless router situated upstairs.
  • Received the items today.

Ipads & mobiles connect fine in the conservatory great reception, but laptop doesn't! It will only work if you use the Ethernet cable. Anyone know why?

Also if anyone has one of these do you know how to put a password onto the solwise home plug so that it's secured & not open?

It's not just a case of the laptop having its wireless connector disabled is it? Does it connect to your main router wirelessly OK?
Haven't used the Solwise kit, but there is a Web User Interface according to the manual. You just point your browser at 10.0.10.254 to access it.

No it's not disabled & there is no problem connecting wirelessly to the main router.

I have resolved the other problem of putting a password onto the solwise home plug so that it's secured .

Connect by cable and use the address given, then see what wireless settings it has. You might have to change it a little to allow the laptop to connect wirelessly.
