Can I Install A Second Modem/Hub?

I can't pick up wireless in my conservatory which is a nuisance cos we spend quite a lot of time in there.
Main cable feed comes into house behind tv in lounge. Modem/hub is upstairs in bedroom connected to a desktop computer which does not have wireless built in so I want to keep the modem in that room, also 2 Ethernet cables for the tv come into bedroom and plug into modem. Therefore I don't want to remove the modem/hub from bedroom.
I tried moving the modem downstairs behind tv in lounge to see if I could pick up wireless in conservatory & I can with great reception, but this is no good to me as I need it to be back upstairs.
I phoned virgin & explained the problem. They suggested a new super hub which meant I would have to have 30mb instead of 20 which I now have. Virgin came today with the new hub but it makes no difference to the problem, still no conservatory reception. Therefore I told my Mrs to tell them I didn't want it. I spoke to the virgin guy who called today & asked him why I just can't have another modem downstairs. He said you can but you will have to have 2 accounts, which obviously I don't want.
If I buy my own modem for downstairs then do you think I can get around it??

there are ways to get a second 'modem' as in wifi and/or Ethernet to work.
I do not think pluging in a second router into the same phone line is such a good idea, so it is not the modem part you will be using.
you also get wifi extenders
Would recommend home plugs, and this forum has many happy homeplug users.0 -
You can use lots of old routers as wireless repeaters
Google dd-wrt wireless repeaterChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
What are home plugs?
I know its the same cable line but when I tried it behind the tv in lounge it worked fine. The cable it's not being used as I don't use virgin for my tv, I used to but its just a spare cable now doing nothing.0 -

Had a look at this but the ports don't look like they are suitable for an ipad.0 -
If it's for an iPad, what you would do is have a pair of Home Plugs (aka powerline) to extend the network to somewhere nearer your iPad, then attach a wireless access point at the homeplug nearest the room where you have signal problems. You can get a cheap access point for less than £20.
Could also use wireless extender.0 -

You can get them with a built-in wireless access point, so you have WiFi around the "far end" of the powerline link.
For example:

But there are many others. That will work fine with your iPad.0 -
Trying to make things even simpler. This "pair" of devices is ideal for conservatory deadspots... http://www.solwise.co.uk/net-powerline-plv-200av-pigpew-kit.htmlIf you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

I phoned solwise technical support today and ordered what the guy said was needed to do the job. Fingers crossed I will be surfing away in the Conservatory very soon.0 -
