Fillers, fillers, fillers!!! Everyone Learns IT Eventually

Hi everyone,
I'm a long time MSEer and avid follower of the Grabit board but had never noticed this thread before today. However, the 'filler, filler, filler' title in the 'expired' section caught my eye and I wandered in for a nosey! Having had a quick scan through the first and last couple of pages, it looks like a great community and one I'd like to become part of if that's OK.
I found the OP very helpful with all the info on acronyms etc - even though I've been part of MSE for years I still don't know/remember them all so many thanks for that. However, one thing that did make me smile was the fact that we have dh, ds and dd by no dw (dear wife). Does this mean that all our lovely dh's are too shyto use such a term of endearment?
Finally, (sorry for the long first post in here) I have a question (hope it doesn't sound too stupid):
I've read the posts containing lists of items that trigger the price matching between the major supermarkets but cannot for the life of me fathom how this saves money as (by my logic, which must be wrong so I'd really appreciate some help in understanding) I can't see how, for example, spending £25 in Asda and then getting a voucher for £5 off my next shop because the same items in Tesco would have cost me £20 has actually saved me any more money than going to Tescos would have in the first place IYSWIM. Please can someone explain how the price matching lists work?

Hello and welcome. You're question would take too long to answer. It's a lot more complex than just price matching.....although we do that as well. Sometimes we are buying stuff that for one of many reasons is glitchy.....comparing wrongly when it's price matched.
Other things we do....use coupons, buy ridiculously cheap stuff and stock up when we can get things cheap....or even free.
All I can suggest is that you read and keep reading, you will soon get the hang of how it works. Ask questions if you need to.
For example the current glitch on Radox handwash......it costs £1.90/3 for £3 in As. It costs £1 in S. The price checker currently isn't picking up the Multibuy in As so it thinks you paid £1.90 for it when in fact you only paid £1.......and it gives you the difference.
Bear in mind these glitches can end at any time, there are never any guarantees that they will work. But when they do it's great!
Stick around....it's worth it0 -

Just been to Tosco. They have a thorn tons dark chocolate egg. SEL £10 each or any 2 for £8. Bought 2 scanned at £10 each and got DTD £24:T:eek: so they paid me £4 to take them away :rotfl:
They tried to get out of it but the SEL said the weight range ( of which these are included) and clearly said Thorntons. And spired 4th March. They tried to say the offer wasn't valid yet but there was no way I would know this.
They have since removed the SEL but might be worth checking your stores?
im going to go back tomorrow and have another look at this...I looked yesterday afternoon but wasnt convinced I could pull off the dtd...
The £10 eggs were priced up as special promotion at £10 and on the shelf below were the rows of cheaper eggs in the promotion of 2 for £8...they were normally £6 each ...
Whilst I could see that the larger eggs fell into the perameter weight wise I think the yellow special 2 for labels indicated only the £6 eggs were included...
Well done if you managed to get the dtd...but I think my local T has made it difficult to push for the dtd.
It might be one of those where some stores will honor the dtd because the SEL is woolley...others (possibly like my T ) will insist their labeling doesnt include the larger eggs.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Hello and welcome. Right ill give it a shot explaining it to you. You buy for example 3 things in sada that are in a 3 for £10 deal. So you have paid £10 plus fillers ( to make sure you have a minimum of 8 items so your receipt will compare on the apg site) the apg site thinks you have paid full price for all items, it hasn't realised you got them on offer. So it seems like you have spent more than you have and so if other supermarkets are cheaper than the full price it thinks you have paid it will generate an apg.
Ok I hope you get it. But don't worry if you don't it will come clear eventually. My OH is still confused. I am a newbie to this too. I'm very easily confused :rotfl:
Thank you all for such quick responses and your warm welcomes.
I *think* (hope) I am beginning to get it. Thank you for the explanation Tw1nb0ys, does this work on all deals (BOGOF, 3 for £10, £3.50 each or 2 for £6.00 etc) or only on ones with glitches? If it is only on glitched deals, is that the main purpose of this thread, to share the glitches?

In a nutshell, most of what we do is take advantage of mistakes and price glitches on websites, mainly mysupermarket.co.uk.
Take the Radox that is still glitching today and was so all of yesterday. When you see the price comparisons people are posting of £1.90 each v £1 each, we didn't actually pay that amount. I bought several last night in groups of 9 and paid £9 cash for them as they are 3 for £3 instore. The price comparison website thought I had paid £1.90 for each of them + their 10% extra guarantee so I actually got a voucher back for £9, making the Radox free.:D
Stick around, read lots and your whole outlook on shopping will change forever. Also, you will never be poor again as you will learn a ridiculous amount on here about saving cash.;)0
