I earlier heard someone saying that if you get locked out of your car just phone home to whoever is at home and get them to press the spare key fop down the phone to unlock the car

I can confirm that this method used to work on older cars - especially Fords and British Leyland vehicles - as well as old Rootes cars - those with worn lock mechanisms especially !
