Quick question that I hope someone will be able to answer.

Have BT Infinity wifi at home and wanted to be able to connect our Sony TV to the internet. Its about 5 or 6 years old our TV.

I've looked for what I need on Amazon and wondered if this is the right sort of thing
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-UWABR100-Bringing-Wireless-Internet/dp/B0036XX4G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393237335&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+tv+dongle

Also, as the TV is Sony is it best to go for a sony dongle or is there a better make we should go for??

Edited to add - The reason I would like to be able to do this is I have just seen that Amazon Prime are going to be offering streaming of films etc for a reduced cost and I hoped I could do this directly to our TV.

Thanks in advance

You will need to check the model number of your TV and confirm with Sony. As its USB your TV will need to already have the firmware to work with this. Since you state its an older model and not a 'smart' tv i think that is probably unlikely.

Whats the model of the TV ?

I presume you have looked if it has a free usb to use, just a thought (could be wrong) but maybe the usb port is just for updating firmware.
  • Thanks MataNui and DCFD79.

I think you've both answered the question and I think the answer is we can't connect the TV. I've had a look at the back of the tv and there are no USB connections and I've just been looking at the Sony website and from what I can make out it doesn't seem possible.

For what its worth the model number is KDL-32V4000, manufactured in 2008.

Oh well, it was a long shot.

    Thanks for the help

Your TV is far too old to have the features you require. Basically, you need a new SMART TV which (if you connect to the internet) has Lovefilm already loaded. Many Blu-Ray Players have this function and you might also consider a games console like Playstation3.
  • Just use your PC / Laptop?

I think the whole point of the thread is that the OP wants to watch streamed movies on the television rather than on a computer screen.

a hdmi cable from the laptop/pc to the TV would acheive that.

Yep, hence my very clear link to show how to connect various PCs to a TV to stream LoveFilm.

Didn't click on any link, just replied to your (not so clear) post!:p
  • I am thinking about buying a blu ray player that can use lovefilm on rather than watching on my iPad...not looked into yet so can't recommend one but when you decide what to do let me know how you get on please
