We've established that you can't connect a non-smart TV to the internet.
The broad definition of a smart TV is one that has Apps, and connects to the net.
OP needs either a new TV or a set top box of some sort.
Purplemunchkin wants Amazon Prime. That's what Lovefilm is turning into. There are loads of devices that can do Lovefilm (PS3 stands out as an example, do you have one?) but for this change, it might be worth waiting to see what Amazon are going to support going forward. Would hate to see you spend hundreds on a new TV that then loses support from the one thing it was bought for...

I am thinking about buying a blu ray player that can use lovefilm
I have a Blu-Ray Player and a SMART TV which both have the Lovefilm app.
I'd say they were all much of a muchness, picture quality will rather depend on your broadband speed rather than the make and model of player.
  • Quick question that I hope someone will be able to answer.

Have BT Infinity wifi at home and wanted to be able to connect our Sony TV to the internet. Its about 5 or 6 years old our TV.

I've looked for what I need on Amazon and wondered if this is the right sort of thing
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-UWABR100-Bringing-Wireless-Internet/dp/B0036XX4G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393237335&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+tv+dongle

Also, as the TV is Sony is it best to go for a sony dongle or is there a better make we should go for??

Edited to add - The reason I would like to be able to do this is I have just seen that Amazon Prime are going to be offering streaming of films etc for a reduced cost and I hoped I could do this directly to our TV.

    Thanks in advance

Seems to get good reviews but I am not sure if it works if the TV isn't a smart one.

Surely alternatively you can use a HDMI cable to connect your computer up to your TV?
  • Kurtis Blue I think that's the answer. My first thought was as a family we can't huddle round my 15in laptop trying to watch films but after clicking your link I see your suggestion is exactly what we can do.

Ive checked the link and I can get a cable for only £1.50 that will connect my laptop to the tv and then it will be possible to use the amazon prime.

    Many thanks everyone.

Once the laptops hooked up to the TV you can kick back with one of these:

And control everything from the sofa, its a great combo.
