Safe? Do you really think that a high yield ( junk ) bond fund is safe, especially at a time when interest rates are rising?

    Hi,

I have £500 I want to invest for a year. Once I get the cashback, my investment will be £390. What would people recommend me to invest in for 12 months. I would really be looking at the easest option to pull my money if I need it.

Can you keep a track of your money online?

    Regards

    Barry

As I mentioned in post 11: "The cashback is from Quidco, so you would get that in the usual way (does that answer the question?)." So the cashback is nothing to do with Legal & General, you have to have registered on Quidco.

For information, I have applied (and got) the L&G Growth ISA as being as close to Dunstonh's ideas as were allowed in the ISA wrapper. I have gone for £500 (maximum I can afford at the moment!). The £110 has already tracked on Quidco for Sept 07.

(Beware, though, the money came out of my account immediately which has left me a bit short and having to move money about. The application form would only accept a debit card.)

    Hope this helps
    Jen

Do i sound stupid or what?
I am sorry if so - what i meant is do i have to keep £500 with L&G’s for a year and what are the options for withdrawal/transfer?
I’ve ‘thanked’ you by the way so..., yes, thanks.

There don't appear to any hard and fast conditions with this - merely open an ISA. If you are concerned I suggest contacting L&G. You'll have to wait until the Quidco cashback is available to withdraw which may be a few months at least. That's why I've signed up for £50 per month - I'm quite happy to wait and see how the investment does - and can't really lose very much that way either.

The withdrawal/transfer options are exactly what you would expect - you may cash in your investment (but cannot open a new mini stocks and shares ISA again this year) OR request a transfer elsewhere. (On transfers of relatively small amounts, dunstonh is likely to have some views)

Surely your investment would still be £500, but you'd also have £110?

Jen, useful info thanks. I have postponed many times using the S&S ISA and this might be the right trigger.

    Further questions to all:
    a) how did you apply? Is it something fully online or do you need to print it off and send via post?
    b) Do they ask you the debit card number immediately on application (i.e. is it all done once you fill it up and you need immediately the funds)?
    c) Assuming you go with the 50 pounds/month option, would they set up a direct debit automatically (they ask your bank details) or do you need to do it yourself with your bank?
    d) Does L&G offer an online checking facility, to see how your fund is performing every so often?

    a) Fully online, yes. They then send paper work for you to confirm. And there is 'cooling off' too since this is a 'distance' application
    b) No, just your bank account and sort code to apply
    c) They will set this up for you - you provide details with your application
    d) Yes, they allow you to register for online once a product customer and make registration for this service part of the online application if not yet a customer

Remember that the £110 is only offered on applications submitted before 18 July ('then drops' according to Quidco) so don't leave it much longer..

Could you transfer it into an S&S ISA with one of the wrapper companies, otherwise you've used your allowance of one ISA, for the year?
(obviously once you've got you 110, of course).
So that's take one out from L&G and then transfer it in to another companies wrapper?

Steve yes I have....... Get this one though... I follow the link on the 12th or something, do SOME but not ALL the necessary clickin n clackin, i.e. not to the point of sign up...
Up it shows on Quidco (no purchase amount though)

I go back on the 17th and START again but complete this time....
No show on Quidco...... Quidco had timed out when I went back and looked at it...

I'm wondering if because the process is obviously more of a time consuming one than many, that is what happens.. More clicks, more pages this time, so Quidco, timed out and didn't log it....
It's only the 19th now, so it may do. I'll keep you posted... I may even end up with two! lol
So at the moment I've got a tracked L&G on Quidco, for the 13th, but I didn't do it properly until the 17th.... I'm hoping they'll honour it....

Suggestion...... Unplug internet cable and have a look through history, for that day/time (should be able to order it like that), do a screen shot of Quidco and next page visited.
    So that's;
    1) the last Quidco referrer page
    2) the 1st L&G one (the url in the address bar, may [I can't remember] have a special code or number in it.
    3) Then finally the last L&G one..... (that you can get anyway, even a blank page with the URL at the top in the address bar, is better than nothing......
    4) Plus you've got your L&G receipt print out. (I couldn't even do that, printers at work weren't working. Copied and pasted the page, but the unique number is an image, so duh!. Still got the last page though which I couldn't have obtained without actually having signed up)

I've got auto clear history/pages/cookies on my browser, so I'm kippered for that little lot!!
