Its in the stores as well as on their web site
Go to Malt whisky on web site & u'll see it there. I too was amazed but have already received my order:Dsomething missing0 -
Interesting, at 40 proof this may not quite hit the 22% vol to legally be taxed as a spirit. (40 proof I work out as 22.8% vol, but it might not be quite 40...)
It would therefore be taxed at a lower level.
Most spirits are 40-50 vol (80-100% proof)
Or was OP a typo?0 -
I suspect the OP meant 40% abv, rather than 40 proof.
Chances are that Asda have bought this from a "brand" distillery. I wonder if anyone knows which one...
Not available in my area, anyway...0 -
Must have been an error as it is not legal to call it whisky if it less than 40% alcohol by volume.0

I think it's quite obvious that is what was meant but some people are just being pedantic as usual.
Seems to be more popular than a thankyou

Wow!
Duty on whisky is currently £19.56 per litre of pure alcohol. So a 70cl bottle of 40% has £5.48 Duty alone! Not to mention the 17.5% VAT they've got to pay.
Asda would be better off pouring the stuff down the sink than selling it at that price (not that simple as the duty is paid at bottling, not selling, but you get the drift).
Sadly I don't have an Asda anywhere near me, so can't tell what's in the bottle, but it's going to be over three years old, produced using traditional methods and matured in scotland.
Probably drinkable but might be a little rough around the edges if it's young!

If this is true, this boy merits a gold medal, or at least a mention in despatches. Moneysaving at its very best!0
