Ornaments

I do have a few ornaments in a display cabinet (some Doulton figurines and Royal Crown Derby penguins I've had as special presents) but I'm not especially keen on ornaments dotted around loose on surfaces as I'm not a massive fan of dusting and the more knick-knackery there is in a home the more housework there is to be done!
I don't really like pot plants, particularly cacti and those horrid dusty-looking succulent things, but I do love fresh flowers and nearly always have a bunch of something pretty to coordinate with the decor.0 -
I have a fairly clutter free living room - a few candles dotted around, a mirror vase, my mantelpiece has two inherited Victorian 'Lustres' on it (cos the sun hits it in the afternoon and I get rainbows all over the walls) a clock and two crystal vases.
I have windowsills which have inherited antiques on.
I have a corner cabinet which my most treasured possesions (china, silver and mementoes) are displayed in.
I also have boxes on top of wardrobes which hold inherited china and glass items.
I also have a Welsh dresser which displays my inherited (mostly) Blue and White Willow Pattern China. circa 1892
I couldn't get rid of those for a 'modern' clutter free home. I like having my families past around me. I like knowing my grandmother drank from a certain teacup and saucer. I like my great aunts taste in antiques (that's where all the 'old' stuff comes from). most importantly - I LIKE the old antiques. Yeah ok, my house was built in the 1970s, but you can mix old and new, and if you do it right, it looks good.0 -
I have some ornaments, but not huge amounts.
I've got a couple of things that have been handed down to me from my nan and my parents, things that we've picked up over the years, things we've found at antique fairs.
Generally things that please me.
We only have a couple of things in the living room - most live in the dining room on a dresser and a corner unit.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Its funny as I thought noo, I don't have ornaments...I associate those with mums glass cats and figurines but I guess I do! We have a small rented flat with not many surfaces but have managed to accumulate a few little things between the tv stand, top of bookshelf and windowsills including A South African made beaded giraffe, 3 glass Egyptian pyramids
A heart shaped stone I found in Jersey, A split in half pebble with pretty colours from Guernsey, 2 er dancing meerkats (not mine, given..) A couple of various tealight holders, A glass chilli filled cockerel (as confessed on the what did you get at xmas thread!!)
We have also a rather tatty plant that clings to life, a few cacti and a succulent on the windowsills (reminds me must remove the dead one tomorrow!)
On the walls are a couple of photo montage frames filled with friends and families, two paleish canvas prints, a metal 'print' showing a vintage style postcard with strawberries on, a newly put up 3 printed boards strung together from Camden Market featuring Caffe Espresso, Merlot and Le Pain Rustique. And last but not least a Van Gogh print.
Amazing how much in a little space! None of it overly matching but I will never excel in that area but its our home, and its as comfortable as you can make work rented shared flat (aka cupboard!)I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

I do have a few ornaments about the home. A couple of vases and cat statues as well as family photos. I have two book-cases which are full to overflowing, one in the hall and one in the bedroom but books as ornaments seems very strange!Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

We have a couple of plaster sheep in the kitchen.
In the sitting room we have:
2 framed wedding pics
2 candlesticks on the mantlepiece (never lit so ornamental!)
Church candles in the hearth
Black garland across the mantlepiece.
Little red guitar clock ornament (not my cup of tea but was bought for DH by his kids)
Black metal skull with a kind of filigree design (without the holes!) that sits on top of the CD racks with guitar picks in it.
Red blown glass heart hanging from the window latch.
2 large metal buddhas that I got from freecycle for the garden but they've never made it out there and sit next to the fireplace!
In our bedroom we have the Pirates of the Caribbean toy figurines that were our wedding cake toppers.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

I don't like clutter, But do have a few carefully chosen items.
Two minimalist cat sculptures, a vitra ball clock, a fossil from my collection, a juicer that is shaped like a rocket.
I would like to get an Eames House Bird for my living room.0 -
I don't like clutter but I have a clock, lots of photos of my kids (graduations, weddings etc) grandchildren and some memorable foreign trips. Some pottery DD made when she was about 5 and we were homeschooling and took her to a pottery group as I can't do the arty bit. Couple of sports trophies, lots of plants and some things that were precious to my late MIL. I also have a display grandson did of Star Wars figures which he checks when he comes. Dusting is fun.
Somethings are more important to me than clutterfree living.Sell £1500

That's pretty much it in our flat!
My Galileo's thermometer is far from an ornament!
If there is only one ball down I'm allowed the fire on. If there are three down OH is turning the heating off.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

You want to keep an eye on those.
