T-Mobile will not follow through the agreement of unlocking my handset

I think that network companies should unlock your phone for free, at the end of your contract.
I'm going to try running it by Orange when I next come up for renewal (a year's time) and see what they say!
That said, and even though the Lumia 520 is a godawful phone, it may have been possible to pay to get it unlocked in one of the alleyway phone shops.0 -
Its about £30 through Ebay:beer:0

well as mentioned above Prowla, I have since left T-Mobile and gone else where, however, I am left with a smrtphone I cant use, as it is locked to T-Mobile. T-Mobile have already charged me for this service. as mentioned before, the cheapest on my high road was £30.00Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -

I know of people who have waited between 45 and 60 days, there is no mandatory maximum time period for supplying an unlock so they can almost do what they want. As long as it's reasonable, but of course no definition of what that reasonable period is.====0 -

well as mentioned above the following happened:
advised by T-Mobile the handset will be unlocked on or before 10th Feb
ported my number on 11th feb with a different company
purchased a basic handset as phone is still locked
currently using basic handset, cant access internet
somehow I feel T-Mobile are responsible hereTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
I originally thought it was an easy process for them to obtain an unlock code but it really depends on the particular handset, for instance the Motorola Moto G seems so easy to unlock that a code is available within minutes.
However the Lumia's are so difficult that they have to start off with basic scans for the code and then do deeper and deeper searches until they find one which can take several weeks.
The person on the phone probably has no first hand knowledge of the problems so has given you mis-guided information.0 -
I think it's all a bit of a con; perhaps buying from CPW or retail is a better option than from a supplier who locks it.trinidadone wrote: »well as mentioned above Prowla, I have since left T-Mobile and gone else where, however, I am left with a smrtphone I cant use, as it is locked to T-Mobile. (Regarding the 520, maybe it being locked has done you a favour
; my work decided to roll them out, but they were so horrible I decided to buy a s/h iPhone 4 for around the £100 mark in preference to using it.) 0 -

One of Ofcom's predecessors ruled locking wasn't illegal, after all you get the phone subsidised and the operator is permitted to try and recoup that subsidy, but there should be an easy way to unlock the handset.
In terms of buying from any 3rd party there no guarantee the phone will or will not be locked. It all depends on who had the best deal (or availbility) on the handsets when the retailer came to buy them.
Lets say the latest phone comes in 5 colours, and each of the major networks get one of the colour exclusivley. Vodafone get the red variant, and Orange the Orange one. If I want to have an Orange coloured phone on Vodafone network then regardless of if I go to a 3rd party or Orange to buy the phone the chances are that phone will have been locked to the Orange Network.
I've had phones from CPW and P4U that have come locked and and others unlocked, its not as simple as saying all of XYZ's stock will be unlocked.0 -
Sure - I'm saying that at the end of the contract they should unlock it, as presumably they've recovered their costs and all obligations have been met.One of Ofcom's predecessors ruled locking wasn't illegal, after all you get the phone subsidised and the operator is permitted to try and recoup that subsidy, but there should be an easy way to unlock the handset.

I recently got one of my boys a phone, and CPW way beat Orange on price (for an Orange upgrade keeping the same number) and supplied an unlocked phone.0
