Personally I think 17 is definitely old enough, as at 16 she could move out herself anyway. Maybe have a dry run for a long weekend away?

A lot on here seem to have grown up babies...shame really..

In what respect? There's not much reason to leave my kids on their own - I don't have the funds for holidays without them. Up to the age of 16 they wanted to come on holiday with me - now they don't, so it seems like a good idea to talk on here about things that might be worth preparing them for beforehand.

It's different to babysitting, being alone while parents have an evening out, cooking for themselves, washing up, washing their opwn clothes, or getting themselves to college, gigs, etc. and being independent in that way.

I haven't read the whole thread but wondered if you'd thought about asking her if she'd like a friend over to stay so they can both house sit.

That way there is company , can share cooking and housework and is a bit more 'gentle' than two weeks home alone if she hasn't been left before.
