Hmm, how old is he, will he be in agreement of your tracking of him?

If you install an app like Life360, and he doesn't WANT to be tracked, he'll just uninstall the app, surely ?

you could use the built-in utility in Android Device Manager, as long as he tends to leave GPS switched on ...

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

he is 12...but wonders around with his friends a lot and always guided where they tell him to meet/do, sometimes telling me one thing but ending up elsewhere
  • Yes ,Android Device manager likes a good option - didn't know about that one !
  • Android device manager will track the phone and give you a now location, google dashboard will have the phones location history although if GPS is off it may not be that accurate, also if its located itself from a wifi access point or mobile phone tower then it will show a location "jump" to that point

    Device manager: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager

Dashboard ( scroll to location history ) https://www.google.com/dashboard
  • And some people say a smartphone is just a tracking device that happens to let you make phone calls ?

Used the lookout app to track my daughter when she went on a trip to another city with some friends.

Its limited to the phones signal and GPS lock.

  • Cerberus will show you location and recent calls and texts but I think you're invading his privacy. If he can't be trusted maybe he shouldn't be out on his own? He's only got to switch his phone off or leave it home to stop you tracking him.

Just been messing with this on my (Nexus4) phone and it plots exactly where I've been over the last 30 days - very interesting.

However - I have to be careful that this doesn't sound like stalking :o - Mrs B's phone only says that she has been here at home. Which setting hasn't she got switched on to locate herself using mobile data ... and not just the house wi-fi ???
