If I went in tomorrow, opened the account and started the switch, then my earliest completion date would be 1st Sept, which means I probably wouldn't receive the gift card.
I read it differently. There's a requirement to switch an account fully to the Post Office, but the only time constraint is on the submission of a completed switching form...which you can do before the end of the month.

In other words, the switch doesn't have to complete (ie old account closed and balance transferred over) by the end of the month.

    Am I right?
  • having fully completed and submitted a switching form between 01 July 2014 and 31 August 2014

Would have to clarify whether that means the switching form itself or the entire switch needs to be 'fully completed'.

I may be wrong but (optimistically) read that to mean the form needs to be completed/submitted and thus the switch initiated by that date not neccessarily fully complete.

    EDIT: same interpretation as above

Yeah, thought it could be that too.

Think I'll wait this one out.

PO had this offer when the account launched earlier this year during the trial period. I'm sure it'll be back again.

  • After ringing several numbers and a further several operator transferals it would seem the entire switch needs to be processed before the 31st.

However the operator did think the offer would be back again.

On the contrary. You only need to complete and submit a switching form between 1st July and 31st August to be eligible for the gift card. I opened my account yesterday and they said I'll be sent the gift card and my switch date is the end of next week.
  • hmmm thanks for that, seems a classic case of CS not having a full grasp of the terms of their offers

This account is now available nationwide but the offer is now a hotel break for two when you switch.

Looks like this offer might cost me something for dinner and drinks. I don't think I'll bother.

Still no online application, either, and my nearest "account opening Branch" is apparently 6 miles away (I don't live in the sticks, got several POs much nearer). Out of principle, I won't use an account that can't even be applied for online. It's 2014, for goodness sake. I wonder what else they are trying to flog you whilst they are wasting your time unnecessarily with a Branch application.

One I can easily pass on, particularly after the experience I have made with PO savings accounts.
  • Got another one of these emails, this time offering a free hotel night for two when opening account:

"To thank you for taking out our current account we would like to offer you a stay in a top hotel for two people. Take your pick from over 250 locations nationwide including Hotel du Vin, Malmaison, De Vere and other independent hotels. You will need to apply for your account by 30th November 2014 and complete a partial or full switch by 31st December 2014."

Would of preferred the gift card.
