Can't believe it! We had a NSD and it is a Saturday! Went geocaching this morning and round some friends this afternoon. So a full day but went nowhere near any shops!
Used the last of the fresh hm loaf for lunch. I made the lemon Madeira cake a couple of days ago and it was going a little stale. So put a slice in a bowl topped with jam and popped it into the microwave. Then added some custard. A lively jam sponge with custard! Yum!

I'm a bit rubbish really... I always keep a block of garlic butter in the fridge. To make my garlic bread, I slice the part bake baguette, put slices of garlic butter in each hole, then put it onto foil. I put it in the oven open for a bit, then mostly covered with foil for a bit, then uncovered for a bit longer. I'm quite fussy, and don't like it too crunchy, so the first part of cooking is to hear up the bread, then it's closed to keep the heat it without browning the bread, then it's open at the end to finish it off.

I hope that makes sense!! It's really just trial and error with the baking, but that seems to work for me.

    Night all,
    PG x
Thanks - yes I see what you mean and I'll give it a try :)

  • Hello all,

I fell by the wayside for a bit but hopefully should be back on track again very soon! Just did a good shop for groceries (still have plenty of meat in the freezer) and ended up with a lot more than I'd planned! They had a deal on my local supermarket - a 'bagful' of fruit/veg for $3. You can fit an awful lot in a bag!! I had a job fitting it all in the fridge but will make some soup and maybe roast some of it so that should save some space :)

Also on the menu is leek and potato soup after making it for my OH last week. Yum.

I made a meal plan this morning - it will need to be tweaked or rewritten to cope with the extra veg - but it's a start.

Have updated sig - my 'social' budget is very high cos I included the cost of two early music concert tickets for Good Friday. Can't wait!

  • A few spends this week from the grocery budget....not all grocery related (needed to have the car cleaned, some parking costs etc) but needed to take from the grocery cash as don't have a separate budget for it at the moment... I haven't cleaned my car for years but with new job I may have to transport people rather than dogs so it desperately needed doing!! :o I will rectify this next month and have a budget category for car cleaning!!

Have also bought some milk, bread etc so I now have a sad total of £50 to see me through to the end of the month....should be okay..£2.94 per day but if I stick to the meal plan, I will make it!! :D
