  • Hello!

Can I join please? I'm a long time lurker but have only just joined - we *almost* got out of debt last year but got a bit comfortable and have now found ourselves back in debt :( to say I'm gutted is an understatement. It's all our own fault - after years of watching every penny was nice to have a bit of a breather but its surprising how quickly it all catches up with you again. lesson learnt tho. me & dh know what we need to do and as from today we are back on track :)

we are a family of 4. me, DH, DS (15) & DD (6) and will include all food, cleaning products & toiletries. I cook mainly from scratch and will also meal plan (already done for the next 2 weeks). I find if I'm organised I spend less as have been known to grab something quick (and expensive ) on the way home from work.

I will work on a weekly budget of £50 to start. I know this is definitely doable. Any money left over at the end of the week will be paid towards my debts.

  • Hi all,

Can I stick with $300 for the month again? I still reckon it's doable :p

Thank you for setting up the new thread.

Can I be put down for £160 again. Month will run from 31/03 - 27/04 so I'm on March thread for another week.
GC: £40 a week. Sticking to my budget, but never remembering to post in the relevant thread.
Probably buying toiletries that I don't need, as I can't resist a "bargain."

I work calendar months, so won't start using April's budget until a week on Tuesday (1st April), but can I please sign in with a 30 day month budget of £236.30 (food and drink for me, DS1's milk plus main meals 7 nights a fortnight, and roughly 5 main meals and 2 lunches every 3 weeks for OH).

That's my official budget, but I'm hoping to keep it under £157.53 (two thirds) by continuing to use up old stocks. I managed to keep to my lower figure in January, went over in February (by enough to take me over my lower 'year to date' budget due to a big Costc0 shop which included almost £80 on meat), and look to be within for March (although I still have to get through a possible trip to Costc0, food shopping for a weekend away with OH and a food festival - so I'm not counting my chickens just yet!).

And I've another food festival to get through in April (Easter weekend, so desperately need to be using up and not shopping for anything but fresh milk, fruit and veg until then), and yet another the first weekend in May  Can't actually spend a lot on food at the festivals though, as until I get on with my stock use-ups (and stop stocking up at Costc0), I don't actually have any freezer space for anything else :rotfl:

Hello and welcome to all the newbies.

Weekly shop done and signature updated accordingly. Cupboards were all pretty well stocked so it was mainly just fresh stuff so just under £10 spent which I am really pleased with.
    GC: Feb (16th Jan - 15th Feb) £46.25 / £50 :)
    Mar (16th Feb - 15th Mar) £61.96 / £70

    Good Evening to All,

First time joiner of any Grocery Challenge, long term debt owner though.

I plan on starting this from 1/4/14, as DH gets paid on 31st, and we should only need minimal food in between now and then. I'm planning on a cupboard use up week and then will take a complete stocktake of what we have ready for April.

Unfortunately we're very lax and say we have a 'budget' but thats in the loose-ist of senses and to be honest we may as well say we dont have one as it would make no difference atm.

I would like to see us spend no more than £220 in April, to include DH's lunch items, family meals, dog food, take away's and eating out. I'm accounting for a large outlay in terms of dog food as the new dog arrives in April so will have to spend out in that respect.

31/3/14 DH is being sent to the cash machine for this £220 and we're going to go cash only :)

Theres myself, DH, DS (3 1/2) eating a pescatarian diet, and the dog - who wont be :)
