Was so tempted to go to the chippy tonight... Did the risotto as planned for the children, but not enough for me and bf, so we ended up having hm ish quiche (had a base ood), with eggs that only have until Friday and then rice pudding which used milk that has until tom! Have some lo risotto for my lunch tom, two portions of quiche and a portion of rice pud left over, which will be my lunches for the next few days. WILL NOT WASTE!

    Nsd too :)

    Night all,

Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending
  • Bit of a disappointing start to the month for me, being ill and disorganised so ended up shopping in bits at morreys, Iceland and wa1trose. I have to total my spends but in the region of £70 total and I have nothing of note to eat. I have bits but no real meals and no fresh fruit or veg. I would usually spend less than that in Ald1 and have full fridge and cupboards.

Tomorrow I must look through and make a proper list so I can use things up and buy extra to make proper meals. Am determined not to slip into old ways of processed convenience meals.

First weekly shop in Ald! from the April budget with £22.18 spent. Included a few irregular items like Hot Chocolate, a treat for me of 2 bunches of daffs (95p) :D and some ingredients DS needs for school - not too shabby.
    Back on the DFW Wagon:

    CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
    CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
    Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/18

I've lost half a stone so far and would like to aim to lose the same again in the next couple of weeks, but will be happy to lose anything and keep going in the right direction!

I do have a form of anaemia though, caused by a deficiency of vitamin B12, I'm having to have a course of injections.
We're off for a week soon, will have a good effect on the GC.

Mussels and French fries and French bread sounds so nice, long long time since we've eaten that.
Hey good news all round eh. Lost weight, sortable anaemia and a week in the sun with some heavenly French food - super ! Hope you have a great time and forget the diet for a week.

I went into Mar*s looking for a quiche case to make a quick meal tomorrow between jobs and found - HALF-PRICE legs of lamb. Too good to walk past (dinner Thursday plus the rest lo) and then had to go to Mr T for the quiche cases :rotfl:
Walked past baker's on way home and saw steak pie for £2.99 for dinner tonight, had with mash, steamed veg and gravy. So spends today of £13.81 to start April.

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday

Thank you Lynne, Coxy, Meg, soworried and everyone for all good wishes :) I'm working out twice a week with a personal trainer, the amount of laughter is very therapeutic! Haha I mentioned the mussels as these are on Coxy's meal plan, we are off to Portugal where I think my girls are under the impression there may be a Nando's on every corner.

I'm looking forward to hopefully swimming and walking a lot on holiday, it's self catering (not done this abroad since having a family) so I think we will eat out 2 or 3 nights and eat in otherwise. Money will come out of another budget to the GC. Am having a busy (and positive yay) time at work so definitely need a break, despite numerous holidays the last 2 years and prolonged time off work, I have turned a corner in being able to say out loud my gorgeous husband would want us to enjoy ourselves, I've always known this is the case, but the grief and trauma has affected me very badly, it's as if I have been judging myself against some perceived rate of 'recovery ' and not living up to that. I have another few stone to shift, may pluck up courage to add this to my signature.

It was another NSD today but will need milk tomorrow. Tea will be with my mum. Petrol costs are taking a battering lately but I have some substantial mileage claims due.

I've been sent some Morrisons vouchers through the post so may shop there for the first time in years at some point this month -- and avoid the cafe, I used to like that.

Thanks for all the encouragement, take care.
  • Spend of $35 today, but have got enough stuff to last until next week.

Dinner tonight is an entr!e of sticky pork ribs, main of fish burger, chips, tomato/mango salsa. The local chip shop put their menu through the letterbox, and the fish burger sounded so nice I thought I would make my own.

Early start tomorrow as DH is going fishing. In anticipation of a good catch I bought some nori and hopefully sushi will be on the menu tomorrow. If I have the energy I would like to make a mini selection of Japanese nibbles for dinner, but my energy levels fluctuate, so it depends on that.

Heard today that we are in the worst drought since 1928, the paddocks are mostly brown. Because we understock our land (and get quite a bit of stick for doing so) we still have two paddocks in good condition, but have had no real rain so far this year and are running low on water. Will be ok for the next 6-8 weeks, but if there is nothing during that time, we will be forced to buy water.

going to go for £400 for April please. as yet ive not spent any of it.

kiwiblue i read your post twice before i noticed where you live in your sig. so sorry to hear you are suffering the opposite of what areas of the UK have had lately. people have been waist deep in it here while you are suffering a shortage. Shame we cant get some of ours over to you. i hope you get enough rain soon to help you through and save you from having to buy water in.

We picked up a sack of potatoes and eggs last night. So £11 added. Made DH a sandwich this morning and used some tomatoes from the t order. I know they were value but I've thrown better in the bin. Will try to pick fresh food up ourselves I think.

Put a 2kg gammon in the slowcooker yesterday, thinking it would do 2 meals. But the kids loved it! There is probably enough for me and DH tonight and the kids will have something quick from the freezer as we have an appointment at 5pm.
