Abbey/Santander application - Delay

I've been on the Santaderforintermediaries website today and it looks like things have really speeded up. They're setting up applications from the 22nd which would indicate that the initial backlog has eased a little. That said, my application of the 8th still hasn't made it to the underwriting queue but at least I can see that when it eventually makes it there it will be dealt with a lot quicker than I expected :-)0

So I contacted another Broker today regarding going with someone else....Then I just got a call from my Broker saying Approved Subject to Valuation!!!!!!
Thank God.0 -
It's great being able to read other peoples experiences with santender so thought I would share ours ! We are first time buyers
Application received 18th march
Documents requested 22nd march
Further documents requested 27th march
Sent to underwriters 1st April
Further documents request 4th April
Sent back to the underwriters 4th April
Application agreed 9th April
Valuation booked for 29th April (seemed an extremely long time to wait, not sure about other peoples experience ?)
Valuation received and mortgage offered 30th April !
Finally got there ! Just waiting for the offer to come through the post, searches are now being completed by the solicitor, we are hoping to be out by the end of May as there is no forward chain. Fingers crossed !!0 -
I have been advised today valuation complete and mortgage offer is in post, from AIP to mortgage offer its taken about a month Santander are not that bad afterall!

Well done to you for having the guts to move its hard enough waiting on a mortgage decision, never mind starting the process all over again with a different lender it's definitely paid off.
Good luck.0 -
I'm in the waiting club!
14th April - submitted application
16th - all documents submitted
18th - 21st bank holiday
22nd - checked in with mortgage broker, everything OK and submitted
29th - check again. MA says the bank needed 'verbal confirmation of deposit' for some reason and it has now gone to underwriters.
2 May - no news. MA not answering emails or calls. Now waiting anxiously with lots of pressure for ea and vendor, who is threatening to pull out of sale
3 - 5 May - more bank holidays!
So between 16th and 29th, nothing happened. Don't understand the verbal confirmation stuff, did the broker just not bother to call and check up? Does this look about right for Santander or should I be cutting my losses and start an application elsewhere?
Also should I be chasing that broker every day?0 -

Hello there, you just have to be patient.
You will get there in the end.
Applied 17th March
Mortgage approved 25th April......slow process.0 -
Just to offer some re-assurance to people waiting for Santander they are getting there eventually; this is the log of my application's progress through their system, to approval pending valuation:
Application received 11th Apr 2014 9:50am Broker document submission received 11th Apr 2014 9:57am Broker document submission received 16th Apr 2014 10:22am Passed to underwriting 22nd Apr 2014 11:03am Documents/information requested 25th Apr 2014 9:02pm Broker document submission received 28th Apr 2014 3:11pm Passed to underwriting 30th Apr 2014 6:04pm Underwriter decision: Application agreed 2nd May 2014 4:29pm Valuation instructed 2nd May 2014 4:40pm
Three weeks from initial application to approval seems pretty good to me, much better than I expected given some of the horror stories I've heard.
Fingers crossed the valuation doesn't throw a spanner in the works now...0 -
Hi everyone,
I appear to be in the same boat. My partner and I are trying to buy our first home and our application has been in since 4th April. We're now on 5th May.
The frustrating thing is the bank have come back three times requesting extra docs and then we seem to go to the back of the pile and wait a week or so until someone looks at it again.
Our broker is chasing but there doesn't seem to be much we can do.
Has anyone else got experience of repeated requests for documents? I can't believe their system is that you go to the back of the pile. Crazy.
Fingers crossed we hear soon
Thanks0 -
Yes the same happened to me. They have the worst system ever. Keep pestering your broker to chase things up. Ring the bank direct to check the progress. Good luck0
