I like the following:
"Ships are the nearest things to dreams that hands have ever made" it is part of a much longer poem that I also quite like. This first line sums it up for me though.
It is personal to OH and I, we love boats and the sea and everyone that saw it would understand its meaning when in our home.
I'm not so keen on the generic ones I am seeing everywhere at the moment.2014 - This is Our Year :j0 -

I have my favourite quote in my signature..."We may not have it all together, but together we have it all".
I also like Dr Seuss's: "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is You-er than You" and think that would be great in a kid's room.We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Surely if you're going to have writing hanging from your walls, you want it to have a personal significance? Something that touches YOU, or made you laugh? Generic "quotes" are a little...kitsch, aren't they, especially if they're coming from perfect strangers...the kind of thing you can find written on £5 "wall art" from B&M. It's not going to personalise anything you put it on.
Maybe you could think of something your husband said once that made you laugh, a slip of the tongue or a funny saying he has...Something your child said that was funny or cute, maybe toddler speak?
I don't like cutesy written wall art, as you can probably tell.
That would be lovely - kind of a family in-joke! :AMy all time favourite quote albeit a rather long is
“Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don't blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being "in love", which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.”
From captain corelli's mandolin. Nothing I have ever read has spoken to me more.
I love that quote too. :heartpulsLife is a gift... and I intend to make the most of mine :A

Dr Seuss has a few nice ones for a nursery...
Edit: In my classroom at school I have a little canvas with "Believe you can and you will." My 5-7 year olds refer to it often when their peers are having an "I can't do it" moment! I love it!!!
also, from Roald Dahl in the Twits... "If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely."First date 10.2.2002
