For those of you who think of selling on the MBNA watches, nice though they are, don't think eBay folks will be gagging to buy 'em.

I only got a fiver for each of them! Bargain! ;)

I think I stand to make a tad more than £10 from the large balance transfer at 0% from MBNA. ;D So no complaints from me.

I've just had a flyer through my door for the Abbey credit card which is giving the same watch. Same deal I think- 0% for 6 months on transfers only. Absolutely not interested in the watches myself.
  • this looks like it may be worth checking out, createcard.co.uk offering free flights for new credit card (lloydstsb) applicants

    Here for the first time!

I took up the MBNA junk mail offer of 9 month's interest free credit transfer. I have no intention of making any purchases, and received the his and her's watches. No problem, except, I have no her and don't want the his watch! Anybody want two horrible watches worth £110.00?

The nine months is worth more!

We were sent a mailshot from American Express offering enough 'points' on opening the card to get a free flight to Paris. Great, but the annual fee? £95! They must think we are so dumb. Is anyone daft enough to pay for this thing just to use it as a status symbol? If so, they deserve to be ripped off. It makes my blood boil! ;)
    I'm married now! Yippee!
  • Killing two birds with one stone,
0% balance transfer for six monthes plus £20 cheque.
If you take out a Accucard credit card via the mutual points website they give you 3000 points which equates out to a £20 cheque. Also more than offer the same amount of points but 0% is for 5 monthes.
The first cheque came thru friday ;D

If it was a serious offer for the 2 watches then I would gladly take them off your hands. I am watchless at the moment and was off on Friday to buy one!

I applied for the MBNA card a few weeks ago and it came today.

I don't need another card, I'm doing it just for the hell of it and, of course, to get the two free watches once I've made the first (and only) spend on it.

However, in the week I received a call from MBNA offering me free cash on account, interest free for 6 months.

I have a credit limit of 15K. I was asked 'How much would you like?' Thinking I may as well, I asked for 10K. The lady replied 'You may as well have 12K, you can always pay anything back that you don't use.'

I have now 12K that I didn't want necessarily, I will transfer it to a high interest account for 6 months (or slightly less) and then pay it back. I guess I could make a couple of hundred quid in interest.

My point is that I feel MBNA have been very irresponsible. Do they really make enough money from those who end up paying their higher (presumably) interest rates to counter those like me whom they will not make a penny off?

Is this a sign of the credit problems in this country that will eventually cause problems. I hear that it is worse in the USA.

    Regards

    Martin

Yes, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Be wise and make the most of it. If I were you, I'd ring them up and ask for the remaining £2700 (they will give you up to 98% of your limit). Stick it all in Egg's Internet account paying 4.75% for 6 months.

It's irresponsible lending like this that makes credit card bagging so worthwhile!
