I have bought cotton curtains and duvet covers and used them to cut up to make other things with, shopping bags, cushions, drawstring bags etc. I often spot nice fabrics at car boot sales and then just bring it home and wash it. A double duvet or a flat sheet yields an awful lot of yardage!
:hello:  please play nicely children !

Right, as there are so many of you wanting to have the knickers. It would cost me a fortune to copy and draw out the pattern that I have. So I have had a look on line and have found some similar patterns that are free to download.

    So here are the links

    happy SEWING ladies.
Now I better get on and do some work, as I have hardly sewn a stitch in the last two days and I cant earn any wages if I don't sew.

Thanks for those. A handy way to use up old T-shirts!

To start sewing trousers etc a heavier weight fabric is better. Try denim, cotton drill, suit weight polyesters, flannels, that sort of thing.

I use https://www.croftmills.co.uk as well as eBay.
I ofcourse recycle loads so I buy duvets and curtains if I like the fabric.

When learning to sew you can get a lot of free tutorials, you tube is good. Buying on line classes from Craftsy is also good value for money.

I'm happy to help where I can, and if necessary could arrange a Skype chat if necessary but you would have to pm me to arrange.

thank you im sure i'll be back with lots of questions lol. my first project needs to be a valance for our bed. we moved house at the end of august and iv cut one of our old bedroom curtains up to make a new pair i want to cut the other to make a valance thats split at the corners im hoping i can use a single flat sheet to attatch them to i think it should be big enough to go under the mattress. i need to join the side bits as
its not long enough so iv bought some sequined trim to cover the join. can i stitch this straight on using a straight stitch on the machine or is there a better way ?
iv done 3 things right in my life and their all perfect

Clothkits is doing a January fabric clearance, with quite a good range of Liberty prints as well as more stuff.

Way back when my kids were small we used to get Clothkits sewing kits, made a few nice things from them. Back then they did wonderful t-shirts too - OH was so sad when his stripey one finally fell into so many holes even he couldn't wear it any more! The girls and I had matching dresses in pale blue with a really nice pastel coloured parrot print. They did a bright one too IIRC but the pastel suited us better.

I wonder does anyone else here remember Clothkits from the 70s and 80s?

You would need to see how your needle copes with sequins. Personally I would probably sew then on by hand with a slip stitch, or overcast one. Sequins can play havoc and break needles, so if you are seeing them by machine keep your face away (don't hunch close to the machine, as you don't want a needle to snap and a piece fly off into your face-trust me it can happen!)
If you wear glasses it's a bonus!!
To join a flat sheet at the corners, cut a square out of the corners the depth of the matteress, then join the two sides.
Run a zigzag over the seam to stop it fraying if you don't have an overlocker.

I remember them but never bought them. Probably because I lived in Cyprus and fabric was cheap in those days

I remember Clothkits! I made myself a gardening pinny once and loads of things for my daughter when she was small, didn't realise they were still around.

Thanks for the panties links. I need to get some ballpoint needles. I didn't know there were so many varieties of elastic!

Knickermaking is not going well here at Pixie Palace......I seem to be incapable of sewing a straight line in jersey......
