And then the op is quite within her rights to call in health and safety which i dont think m&s would really want.

Do you really think that the Foods standards agency would be in the slightest bit interested in a small insect nest being found in a product that is grown outside in a place that will be crawling with insects of every type imaginable?

If this was the case, they would have a full time job inspecting the fruit and veg counters of every supermarket and shop in the country.

I didnt say the fsa, i said health and safety in the council. As stated on the fsa website:

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post as is both a vent and needing advice. I went to M&S yesterday to buy a valentines meal, and picked up some grapes while I was there. I was eating the grapes, and looked down and found a spider's nest in the bunch, complete with eggs. I was completely freaked out as I am terrified of spiders, and when I was cooking and eating the meal later, I kept picturing it and it ruined the food for me. I emailed M&S and they replied asking me to return the grapes to the store for a refund, where's the customer services there?! It cost me the best part of a fiver to get there and get parked yesterday, plus I spent £35 on a meal that was ruined for me, I'm not going to do that again just to get a £2.50 refund!

So, that was my rant, question now. They say they want me to return them for their supplier to take a look at, bearing in mind the grapes come from Namibia, and so the spider could be any species, what do I need to do with them really? One thing I can't do is touch the eggs, I feel sick they are even in my house. Do I need to inform anyone, environmental health or anything? If M&S don't offer me something more than a simple refund on that item, I don't intend to make a trip there, is it ok to just put them in my rubbish? Are there any implications if the eggs were to hatch?

    TIA

Oh for goodness sake.take the grapes back if you're not happy with them and stop angling for more than your're entitled.

it is exactly people like you trying to take the pee that has reduced genuine customer service when needed.

    ruined your meal my arris.

So if we agree to disagree on what would be good customer service on this thread, assuming I'm not taking them back, and that I can't touch the eggs, what do I need to do about the bloody spider?!

    nothing!
throw the grapes away and get over it.

I don't want to alarm you, but.... http://goafrica.about.com/od/africanwildlife/tp/Africas-Scariest-Spiders.htm

Why the hell is it still in your house? I would have set it on fire in the back garden. By the way, did you know Namibian spiders are particularly partial to eating cling-film?

Thanks, that's all I wanted from them, I was hoping for the amount that I spent, but a guesture of apology generally, which I would have expected as a voucher. I shop there fairly regularly, so I would use it within a few weeks.

How about the word "Sorry"? That's normally the gesture of apology I expect.

If anything this shows M&S are selling good grapes. If they were completely soaked in pesticides then there would be no spiders around the grapes.
  • Perhaps they don't realise just how much the problem with the grapes has incurred your wrath......maybe there's a real story there
