I was hoping for a refund of yesterday's shopping ideally, to feel valued, the very least I want to return them is the amount it would cost me plus the refund of the grapes, rounded up, that would be about £15

I think your being unrealistic. I can understand not enjoying your grapes but not enjoying your entire meal later in the day? A massive over reaction. I don't really see why they should have to refund your entire meal because of this.

I'd have expected, after sending an email with a picture attached a refund of the grapes. A supermarket can't control random animals appearing in their fruit and veg, especially spiders which can appear at any point, even after you've brought it home.

I've found slugs and the like in my veg before and done nothing more than put it outside, wash it and cook it as normal. I can fully appreciate why you wouldn't want to continue eating the grapes though in this situation, hence why I suggested a refund of the grapes as an acceptable solution. The only reason they want them returned is so they can identify the spider.

Maybe if you send them a well written email, stating it will cost you x amount to return to M&S for the refund and you don't want to wait in case they hatch, they may agree to refund your travel costs as well.

I don't think it's unfair to hope for my basket refunded, if I went to a restaurant and food something in my meal that upset me that much, they may offer the bill free, will I get it, probably not, but one can hope can't they? Last year I emailed Morrisons to say that a multipack of crisps had 4 less packets in it, they asked me to return them that day as my son had lost the receipt, I pointed out that would cost me more than the crisps cost, they sent me a five pound voucher in the post, that's good customer service. I have replied to them that it would not be worth me returning the grapes, and that if I am going to be out of pocket, I would simply destroy them, and shop elsewhere next time, I'm not ranting and raving at them, demanding huge damages for emotional scarring, going to the Daily Mail, with my children looking sad, I've come on a consumer website, had a rant and asked if it's ok to throw them away if I don't get a response from a retailer who sells their products on the overall shopping experience that leaves me out of pocket.

Going to a restaurant and finding a foreign object in your meal is a completely different scenario - as it would be if you had found one in an M&S ready-meal.

The packaging stated that the grapes should be washed first and you chose to just rinse the package under the tap. You didn't eat the spider!

M&S are very good at refunding for items not of sufficient quality - in the past they have refunded me my money and given me a free replacement. That is no more than is required in this case.

So if we agree to disagree on what would be good customer service on this thread, assuming I'm not taking them back, and that I can't touch the eggs, what do I need to do about the bloody spider?!

I don't see how a spider in a bunch of grapes has ruined your entire meal or day. Are you really that detached from reality? Creatures do occasionally turn up in food, it's just nature. A refund for the grapes seems entirely appropriate. I do feel you are over-reacting slightly.

Did you actually see mummy spider or just the egg sac?You only mentioned the nest.

If you did see mummy spider she could be anywhere.

If you won't take it back burn the egg sac.
If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?

No, not day, but yes, meal as I felt rather nauseous, especially as cooking the food I bought at the same time reminded me of it. Do you want me to apologise for having the most common phobia? Will that make you feel better about wasting 5 minutes reading my post and replying in your most condescending tone, when you could have just ignored it and got on with your life? As it was, I had a lovely evening, Thank you for caring, my day was so/so, picking up a valentines offer meal from M&S in my lunch hour is a bit like trying to shop on Black Friday in the states, but other than that fun experience and this, it was fine. Had almost any other creature been found in my food, it would have been a less unpleasant experience for me, but that's not unusual, there are millions of others who would feel the same.
