Effect of Scottish Independence Vote

so are you saying the Tories won't be in government after the 2015 elections, and that therefore there won't be an EU referendum in 2017?
It's a bit difficult to interpret your cryptic clues
(sorry about being way off topic now, lol)0 -
i think he does... i think black taxi may be joining us whilst driving;)
im unsure where to even start with predicting next year's General Election. but please please please let us have a Conservative victory so that they can continue straightening the finances & give us an EU referendum.
if we get one, by then i think the lie of the land will be very different with the EU. the relationship will have changed. i don't think it is beyond the realms that the Conservative party has a change of tack and campaigns for us to leave, on the basis that the changes they have tried to make have not been supported by France, Spain etc. Support of Sweden, Holland etc. will be there..
& yes, we are way off Archi:o.........will we, as a non-EU country, want to stash our money with a financial institution with a 'Scotch Pound' in a country that wants desperately to join the EU that we've just voted to leave?:)0 -
Sorry to let you down on the EU front, planteria, since I think the UK would be mental to leave the EU. But EU or not, I don't support that the UK should have a currency union with an independent Scotland regardless of cryptic messages from our taxi driver0

i disagree...but we'll leave that for another day, out of respect for Drive:)0

correct. but what does that imply? because 2 independent countries can't be compelled to continue to share a currency, unless both of them want to.
what it really implies is that both countries can continue to use something called the pound, and have full control of their own pound, but they will be 2 different currencies.
the scottish pound would be just as real a pound as the south british pound. laws would be passed to determine which accounts, contracts, debts, etc, that are currently in pounds, would be converted to scottish pounds, and which to south british pounds. and crucially, the share of the national debt which scotland takes over would be in scottish pounds, avoiding the problems of having a debt without controlling the currency.
it may not be your first preference, but this is all perfectly workable.
Scenario 2064. That's how long it took Ireland to get to the point of having an actual independent currency And central bank.0 -

Ireland? Independent currency? Central bank? Nothing much independent about the Euro, and nothing much irish about the ECB? Have I misunderstood what you meant?0 -

From independence in 1921 until 1972 the Irish currency was a dummy currency entirely interchangeable with sterling. The had a central bank and still do actually but pegged to EMS in 1978.
If Ireland is anything to go by a Scottish currency should be on the scene by 2064. The it can join the Euro!0 -
Come now all, lets get back to the OP question. What's it to be? Pull out of all investments cross border or have faith that all will be well.
I take it as read that those saying pull out will not have any investments outside of their home country.......
...and those saying stay put must believe in utopia
.........the don't knows form the greatest part
.....................and I have lost my will to live if this thread carries on as it has done for the last umpteen pages!
Did anybody see Horizon last night with the enlightening methods we use to make decisions? Will the residents of Scotland vote with system 1 or system 2 and what about taking the gamble?0 -
