Must admit I keep my photocard licence in my wallet. Haven't thought about it before. Is your concern the fact that the licence has your address on it which could be used in conjunctin with credit cards to place fraudulent orders?

    Pretty much, yes.

I haven't lost a wallet or bag for donkey's years it's- but it's the pickpockets I worry about in big cities/underground.

Having been mugged a couple of times I even have a 'special' wallet for trips to London for example - it has a £5 note and half a dozen expired credit cards, bus tickets and so on- but nothing that can link to my address.

And no - I'm not paranoid - I get the last laugh.

It probably is but the paper bit is such an anachronism that I doubt if anyone outside the UK would be interested in it.

I think that we are due to be scrapping it soon.

I don't think that any other EU countries have anything other than the card type. Not 100% sure though.

Or is it okay to carry photocopies and keep originals safe at home?

Pointless carrying photocopies, they have no legal validity with the fuzz so it's not going to help you.

Likewise carrying the originals around puts you at risk of loosing them. The police will simply give you what is commonly known as a producer which gives you a 7 day perio to produce them at a police station if they want to see your licence.

It's easy enough to carry, as said I don't though

What sort of unplanned circumstances were you thinking of that might require it?
I can understand youngsters needing it for booze etc but I can't even recall the last unplanned need for mine.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • Those whom carry their photocard for proof it they get stopped by police are deluded and wasting their time. A full driving license is photocard and also the paper part of it, therefore photocard is no use on its own other than for ID purposes. It is illegal in france to drive otherthere with just your photocard as you are not carrying your FULL license, and most hire car companies will not touch you with just a photocard and in deed some in the UK wont.
