Carry driving licence all the time?

I carry mine anyway; if I'm stopped I'd rather show them it at the time and get on with my life than have to take it into a police station later, especially since my local one is closing. But then it doubles as my ID for everything else, anyway.
I can't think of any reason not to carry the photo-card one with you anyway.
unless, like me you dont have one0 -
When driving in France the driver has to have their license with them in the car plus car insurance and docs. Instant fine if you don't have them.
How long before we have to do the same under EU rules I wonder?0 -

Too long.
And it's not just in France you need docs.
It would stop a great amount of crime at one fell swoop.
When you watch even one of those police patrol tv programmes you understand how much this "I don't want to carry an ID card because it's an invasion of my privacy/human rights / personal freedom." garbage is costing us.0 -
I carry e photo card at all times - that way I have proof of ID if required. I have nothing to hide, nor is there any risk in me carrying it.
An additional £20 expense if your wallet/purse is lost or stolen.Nodding_Donkey wrote: »Nope, at a Post Office you need to show the actual documents, it's only online they are checked by computer.
Nope, not any more. I just taxed my partner's car intending to try and blag it using scanned copies on my phone as she's lost the originals, and they didn't even want to see them. The only paperwork they needed was the V11 and her DLA certificate.
Apparently the tax disc is going away this year too = slightly improved visibility on the left hand side of the windscreen. happy days!0 -

Meh about time, not like they needed with anpr cameras everywhere.
I stopped mounting the disc on my bike years and years ago, partly because they occasionally got nicked and no one bothers to look for it on a bike.0 -
We very rarely ask people to produce D/L at police stations, because we can get just about all the info we need from the police computer.
Fixed penalty tickets have been replaced by TORs (traffic offence reports) which means that most fixed penalty offences are dealt with through the post, negating the need to produce docs at the police station.
A driving licence is useful ID though. I carry mine for that reason alone.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
I carry my photocard in my wallet. Don't see any reason not to.0

Contains your name, photo, address and date of birth, and you're keeping it in the same place as your credit/debit cards.
This gives anyone who finds/steals your wallet a not more useful information should they decide to try and do something fraudulent with your cards.
Also you have to pay 20 quid to replace it!0 -
Not a good idea!
I agree with Lum.
I have my licence (both parts) my car docs and my EHIC together - but totally separate from credit cards.
Must admit I keep my photocard licence in my wallet. Haven't thought about it before. Is your concern the fact that the licence has your address on it which could be used in conjunctin with credit cards to place fraudulent orders?0
