Saw something on a different thread that reminded me about this one, so thought I'd pop in for an update.

I'm still 5:2-ing (except the last couple of weeks when I was on hols), but my weight has been on a plateau for almost 2 months now :(.

I've decided to start tracking my calorie intake on non-fast days again, not necessarily to restrict them, but because tracking them forces me to be honest about what I'm really eating :o.

On the plus side, the holiday was a no score draw on the weight side, so at least I didn't put any on!

Hi, Just found this, I have been on 5:2 for 3 weeks and lost 1lb per week which if it keeps going this way I will be very happy. Fast days Monday and Thursday and I each completely normally the other days (maybe a bit too normal)
Tomorrow I am going to try a mug shot for lunch then chicken in tomato sauce with some veg for tea

    Photogenic
I fasted on Sunday and am doing Tomorow this week, I also have discovered that you can make realy nice oven chips from swede/tumshies which are relatively low in calories. Much more chip like than the sweet potato ones.

Sorry, it's been ages since I posted on here!

Today has been a big day for me so I thought I'd update - weigh in this morning on the wii put me at a BMI under 25 for the first time :D
Into the "normal" weight category and no sad little noise for the first time.

    Totally made up :j

Is anyone on this thread still doing the 5:2?
I'm considering giving it a go and remembered there was a thread about it, so scrolled through health & beauty to find it but it all seems to have gone very quiet in here :o
I might try and do my first fast day on Thursday or even tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I need to prepare anything before beginning, stock up on low calorie foods etc.
If you make soups etc at home how do you work out how many calories are or in them, or do you have to guestimate?
I'm also worried whether or not I would be able to exercise on Fast days, I don't want to get light headed or feel ravenous all day. Is it best to leave exercise for the non-fasting days?

Hi Fairy Lights - yes this thread does seem to have quietened down a bit. Probably cos a lot of people have been successful & are just maintaining.
I'm going back on it again as Christmas, visitors & being poorly I've put a few pounds back on. I usually fast on Tuesdays & Thursdays. I do exercise on those days (gym & yoga) but I drink plenty.
You dont need to get anything special for food but I find it helps to plan how you are going to eat your allowance. How you do it is up to you - 3 small meals or a larger one later or a big breakfast - whatever suits your lifestyle. There's plenty of recipe ideas if you google 5:2 Good for you for giving it a go
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Hi. Yes I still do it, it's forever for me :D

I usually do Mondays and Thursdays - but it doesn't have to be. I generally skip breakfast, have homemade soup for lunch (I use my fitness pal to work out the calls, but a straightforward veg soup is 100-130 cals); or a salad If I need something portable.

Carrot sticks dipped in hummus are a good snack (dipped rather than scooped)

Dinner is at least one prawn based meal - stir fry or with courgetti noodles (and carrot noodles) and one veggie curry type meal.

I have lost about a stone and a half, but am pretty much at maintenance now. :T

OH is just starting out, but is managing so far
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Right I've decided to have my first fast day today. I don't think I would be able to get through the day without eating so I've bought a Tupperware tub of chopped up apple (39 kcals) celery (9kcals) and a ryvita (39) to snack on.
So that leaves me 400ish calories for dinner, I'm going to make tomato soup which a quick Google search tells me has about 175 kcals per bowl. I'll also have a boiled egg and another Ryvita with a smearing of Philadelphia which it I've done my maths right should add up to about 500 total.
No the most exiting days menu but I will try to be better prepared and get some more recipe ideas in time for my next fast day.
That's if I manage to get through this one
