Can I join? So happy to have found this thread! I started the 5 2 diet last week I have never stuck to any diet before but this appealed to me as I could eat healthfully on the non fast days. My first 2 days last week were not overly tough apart from the awful headaches!! Each day they hit at 1230.... At first I thought they were migraines but then did some research online and found out they were associated with the diet. I have had 1 fast day this week ... And no headache:) I made sure to drink water and added a good pinch if salt to my cuppa soup lunch. I have lost 3 lbs bring me down to 10.5 st.... Aiming for 10 st my pre baby weight. So far I have trying different eating schedules and for me skipping breakfast and having a light lunch and low cal dinner works. Good luck to all trying this !!

    Hello there!
I have just found this thread!
I have been 5:2ing for a while now and LOVE it!...the weight loss is fairly slow - I am managing a fairly regular pound or so loss a week.
One stone lost so far...plenty more to go!
I tend to fast on Saturdays and Mondays (and weigh in on Sundays)
This is the first thing that has REALLY worked for me weight-wise.

Had my first "you've lost some weight, haven't you?" :T:T

I have lost about 10 lb so far, but it all seems to have gone from the spare tyre - which has all but gone :j I think the combination of no sugar, no wheat has helped that.

I am even thinking of buying a bikini for my holidays - i won't have worn one for about 20 years ;)

  • Hi all & congrats to those of you who've lost weight thus far.:)

I've a question about the fast days. I've just begun this as I'm looking to lose weight and the thought of being able to eat as I normally would & fast for two days and STILL lose weight is what enticed me into giving this a try.

I find that I can fast for two days without eating anything at all. I simply drink tea & plenty of water. I'm not hungry and find it easier to do than if I ate something.

Is it ok to not eat anything on my fast days or will that hinder me losing weight in any way? Thanks in advance for any advice given.

PS: Reason I choose not to eat (fast days) is because if I eat just a little it turns into a lot & I then haven't fasted but have eaten like any other day. Believe it or not I find it more easier to simply not eat.

I gather that there are no issues with not eating at all on a fasting day, and that the 500 calorie limit (600 for men) is only given as most people find nothing at all too much.
Personally, with nothing at all I get really weak and light headed, but just a few hundred calories is enough to keep me going with no noticeable effect.

Of course, you should double check - I've been known to be wrong before :D

I know what you mean about once you've started eating! The reason I don't eat anything until evening is that as soon as I've eaten I feel hungry, but before then I don't really notice.

Not a problem, I'm in a couple of 5:2 groups where people regularly do zero cal fasts. I've never actually done that but have had days I could've done if it weren't for the fact I'd got chicken out the freezer etc and felt bad to not eat it! If you can feel fine doing it then go for it, the other health benefits besides weight loss tend to be better for doing a longer fast

How tall are you Bluebell? Still having a stone to go if you're already 8st 8 means you must be quite small!

It's pretty normal to hit a plateau so I'd suggest just carrying on as usual. If you get to a month with no change, then maybe look at what you're eating on your non-fasting days. Just my opinion of course!

It is fine to not eat on fast days: I don't and haven't for the last six months...

You shouldn't do fast days back to back; the body can only store a limited amount of protein and if you deplete it you can't repair muscles and so lose fitness.

Er, bluebell, it's perfectly normal to have weeks where you increase in weight; I've had six and the weight is always off (or, often, more than off) again the next week.If it becomes a trend that is a problem...
