I got in that way - site is still going, but I think this is a rename. No "entry qualifications" necessary.
Thanks ceridwen it works via your thread.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0 -
There are some e-book links on the site. They are geared around healthy, thrifty meals, they are put out by the US ministry of agriculture and at least one gives a menu plan. There are some good recipes, especially on the African-American one, unusual and easy.
Worth a look.;)0 -
Well howdy folks, I hope y'all have a nice day now.
Seriously tho' - these fundamentalist websites do hold a certain morbid fascination, as someone pointed out earlier on thread - havent come across the ones talking about kids being hit with sticks (crikey!). I am fascinated by how one lives in the modern world (or any world come to that) dressed in "modest clothing". Personally I do the housework in the nude and virtually everything else in jeans.
These sites appeal to my ironic sense of humour - and are useful for dirt-cheap eating ideas etc - so they have their uses, though I think we do have to remember not to romanticise them - I would imagine their life is far from idyllic - particularly for women.
Having said that - indulge me - has anyone compiled a list of these websites - I have only found a few of them so far. Please post your findings on here.
Exit stage left to the sound of country and western music!0 -

I couldn't agree with you more Ceridwen. It is good fun to look at the sites and there are things and ideas that we can take from them but her life sounds hard with no let up at all. (mind you she has the resources to have her own website so you never really know what her life is like...). Good for ideas but not necessarily a life to which I would aspire!0 -
I agree too Ceridwen, but if you like American style thrift then you can do no better than check out a copy of The Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn. It has been discussed pretty extensively on this board before. It's full of all sorts of tips and recipes for frugal living. Some of it is extreme, lots of it is useful and there isn't any religion or dresses
She's funny too, and doesn't take herself too seriously.

Hi all,
I loved the site and wish I could do things like sewing, cross stitch is the closest I can get. Some of the recipes sound good. With the measurements is a cup literally a cup as long as you always use the same one or is there an easy conversion? Also has anyone had grits or know what they are? They sound fascinating if very unhealthy.
I read Dolly Parton's biog ages ago and she said that her dad measured the kids feet with sticks once a year and then went to the town to buy shoes and then they could only wear then on Sundays. They were very poor and seemed to exist on biscuits and gravy most of the time, I wonder if she wears an apron?0 -
Found a weird site that is anit-fundamentalist and one of the links gives quotes. This one is from a fundamentalist christian child rearing expert.
"(From "How to rear Children" by by Dr. Jack Hyles)
1. Let the child realize that you are simply representing God in the execution of the punishment. Explain to him that parents represent God before their children and that they are ministers to execute His judgment. Psalm 103:13 says, "Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him." So God is like a father and He chooses fathers and mothers to represent Him in the punishing of little children. Let the child realize that if you as a parent do not punish him properly, you are being disobedient to God and committing the same sin the child is committing. Explain to him that you are a child of God and if you refuse to obey God in the execution of His judgment upon your children, God will pour out His wrath upon you. For you to be a good child of God requires that you be a good parent to the child. Let him understand this. He will get the idea that God is a holy and just God, One Who loves and yet One Who wants us to become out best. For this to be so He must punish us when we are deserving.
2. Sometimes spanking should leave stripes on the child. Proverbs 20:30 says, "The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil; so do stripes the inward parts of the belly." Our natural man rebels a such punishment, but we are reminded in I Corinthians 2:14 that the natural man cannot understand the things of the Spirit. Hence, we have to trust the God Who knows more than we and obey Him.

10. The spanking should be administered firmly. It should be painful and it should last until the child's will is broken. It should last until the child is crying not tears of anger but tears of a broken will. As long as he is stiff, grits his teeth, holds on to his own will, the spanking should continue."

I wonder if it's the same thing as Fry Light? If not you can get lecithin capsules from the health food shop but I don't know how many you'd need for the recipe.0
