In terms of employability, petty criminals and the long term unemployed are highly comparable.

The jc think they are but they are not. Being out of work is not a crime. People who are unemployed should not be trated like criminals.

You said you would slit your throat which i dont believe and how despicable are you suggesting unemployed people have a pointless life. I am realistic in what i say and informed. I think you are another who dosent know what its like looking for work these days.

Please read my post more carefully. I said - for me - being long term unemployed would be a pointless existence. I also said I understood that's not the same for everyone. I am not saying you have a pointless existence. I have no right to judge that. I am saying I would. And yes I 100% mean it - I would slit my throat rather than be long term unemployed. I'm not suggesting everyone should obviously! I'd hardly have gotten into a row about letting certain unemployed people die of starvation in the gutter otherwise! Sigh.

And I really do know about the current job market. Looking myself thanks - in the midst of trying a new career direction so I can see for myself that it's a bit rough.

You don't seem to have understood what I said. From an employers viewpoint you are on a par with someone with a criminal record - you have been out of work for such a length of time to make them have significant doubts about you.

Why do you think you are better than a criminal? You don't know the reason why someone has committed a crime. I wouldn't make such a sweeping judgement without finding out about the individual.

Some people are looking for work because they have been caring for children. Any decent savvy employer will recognisd that. They wont think your a criminal. There ard reasons why some people have a gap. Genuine reasons.

Why is someone with no criminal record better than one with? Oh dear because the one with has not committed a crime and been arrested and found guilty and then probably been to prison. Compared to one who hasn't who has just been made redundant!

Oh no hang on there is part where ex offenders get help to get a job where as the unemployed don't really. I have seen TV programmes where employers went into the prisons to meet guys and gals who were being released shortly.

I am actually not sure why you are under such pressure from the government to be honest if your unemployed you entitled to benefit by law period. Somebody was telling me they signed on briefly in the eighties and thre was none of what there is today. Far too much pressure imo.

Oh come on... Why not do some volunteering to fill your time and give something back? There's only so much Jeremy Kyle anyone can take in one day.

You help others and get something current for your CV and possibly a ref... It's a win-win.
